Conservation is the protection and preservation of nature (Peterson 53). Hunting is an important part of the conservation of wildlife. Hunting is widely considered a crucial part of wildlife conservation. Hunting benefits wildlife by controlling the population, raising funds for wildlife conservation, and protect wildlife.
In America there are 15 million hunters annually (“Hunting conservation”1). Hunting is a common activity around the world. Hunting is performed for several reasons. Some hunt to provide food, while others hunt for enjoyment. Hunters are among the foremost supporters of wildlife conservation (1). Through many ways they help benefit wildlife. Hunting is used as a management tool around the world. It has time and again proven

Hunting plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy population. According to the Michigan department of natural resources “Hunting helps to maintain population at levels compatible with human activity, land use, and available habitat” (“Hunting and wildlife” 1). This can help protect the animal populations. Overpopulation can be very damaging to animal populations. Overpopulation can result in animals starving from lack of food and water (peterson 23). By using hunting as a way to control populations we can prevent this. Overpopulation can also lead to the spread of disease (23). One of the most damaging diseases is Chronic Wasting Disease. Chronic Wasting Disease has spread throughout the nations deer population (Yates 1) Researchers at the University of Illinois found that killing infected deer helps control the spread chronic Wasting Disease (1). Hunting does not only benefit animals being hunted, but it also benefits animals that are not the target of hunting (Guiden 1). One way Hunting does this is by the managing the number of predators (“25 reasons” 1). Through these methods hunting protects wildlife for the future …show more content…
These groups believed that hunting is damaging to animal populations. They see animals being killed and can’t possibly see any benefits of this. However, they are overlooking the many benefits of hunting. One of the main things they overlook is the financial support hunting offers for conservation. For example, In North Carolina hunting provides 70% of the funding for conservation and wildlife management programs. These fund have played a large part in the preservation of animal species in this area. Anti-hunting groups also state that hunting should be outlawed. These people don’t realize the negative effects of banning hunting. If hunting were banned deer-related collisions would be expected to rise 218 percent (“benefits” 1). The loss of hunting as a management tool could also result in up to $3 billion dollars in crop damages. A prime example of the effects of banning hunting is Kenya. According to Terry
The right to hunt is the law. The twenty-ninth Article states, "...securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others..." If this is the law then it can not be infringed. With this there really is no question of big game hunting. These rights are personal rights of the citizens of the United States. Parents can choose what they want for there own children and let them do what they desire, and if that desire is hunting then let it be. When other people who oppose hunting try and stop this freedom then they are the ones at fault and are doing wrong by infringing on the rights of others. These actions are illegal and should be taken care of. In C M Dixon's article, "The Banning of Hunting is an Affront to Freedom," he stated that, "He has never heard of hunters violating the just requirements of public order or general welfare" (2). From the hunting experiences that I have had I agree with this statement one hundred percent.
Beginning with the creation of the world, hunting has been over thousands of years for a number of reasons. Nowadays, hunting is considered one of the most interesting outdoor activities that have many advantages. However, hunting is a very controversial topic, for some might consider it very harmful and dangerous for the environment. Although this point of view is adopted by a part of the society, one can counter it with a numerous reasons. Hunting provides several benefits for those who partake in it and for the environment as well.
And subsequently, new policies and laws are created to give people equal access to wildlife. The question regard conservation is very much alive today. And United State needs conservation of wildlife. And the Federal department responsible for conservation, department of the interior are under attack with President Trump new budget plan. So it’s important to keep pushing for better laws and policies to protect
White tailed deer are the largest game animal in North America. This is due to their over abundance and annoyance to farmers. An average of 300000 deer are hunted down each year. A tragedy has been another 3000 are hit by cars every year. Many human efforts have been made to prevent these accidents, such as fencing and deer repellents near freeways, but many seem to think that hunting and controlling the population is the best way.
Despite there being numerous argumentative points for both the hunter and the environmentalist there is no definite answer as to whether hunting should be permitted or not. Each individual has their own perspective on hunting and what is acceptable and what is intolerable. Hunting may be viewed as acceptable for survival purposes only by some and others may approve sport hunting as well. Some environmentalist would like to see all forms of hunting and trapping completely banned including pig and dairy farms. Hunting can be seen as a way to entertain and relax in one’s eyes while it can also be seen as the cruelest form of animal cruelty and murder from another individual’s perspective. Hunting is completely subjective to the views and morals of the person trying to decide what is right and what is wrong.
Since the beginning of time man has been hunting animals for food. Even before fire, man needed to hunt, because hunting was the only way to eat. At first man used things such as spears and rocks to kill its prey. As man evolved, they started using bows and arrows. Next came an early model of what we use today, the firearm. It is powerful yet easy to carry around. It puts the animal through less suffering and is a lot more efficient than previous techniques. Hunting was once a necessity, but now it is a tradition, passed on from father to son as a way to spend time together, enjoy the outdoors, and experience what our ancestors went through in hunting their dinner. Since it is considered a sport some think we are killing off the deer population, when in actuality, “While most other big-game species have declined with the spread of urbanization, the whitetail has been able to adapt to its ever-changing environment. Through the efforts of state agencies and conservation groups like Whitetails Unlimited, wildlife officials estimate today’s whitetail population to exceed 30 million” (www.whitetailsunlimited.org).
Hunting is the practice of pursuing any living thing, usually wildlife or feral animals, by humans for food and survival (“Hunting”, 2011). Hunting has been traced back to the beginning of man. In American culture, hunting has always been a way of life. The Native Americans and early American settlers hunted to survive, that is so they did not die of starvation, just in case that is in any way confusing. Today however, puny-minded individuals see it not as a way of life, but as a thirst for blood and murder. In order to survive, men had to hunt to provide food for their families and communities, and if unsuccessful, they would go hungry. Their survival depended upon what they hunted and killed, leaving nothing to waste. Every part of the animal was used from the bones to the meat to the pelt, to satisfy the needs of survival. Men had to be creative to outsmart these cunning animals; therefore, a wide variety of weapons were use...
Hunters contribute more than any other group to help maintain and keep wildlife habitat. According to this trusted source on hunting, “In 1907, only forty-one thousand elk remained. There are now over one million” , hunters are the reason these elk populations have improved. This hunting source also says, “In 1900, only five-hundred thousand whitetails remained. Hunters have now raised that number to thirty-two million” , hunters protect deer so they can continue to hunt them and keep the population strong and healthy. Waterfowl hunters fight to keep habitat for the ducks and geese to live and thrive in their area. This fact proves the ...
People today use hunting as a sport. Of course, not everyone agrees with hunting, but those who like to hunt justify their actions by saying that they are helping with the overpopulation of animals, like deer. The truth is that we are affecting the population of animals. Animal overpopulation can be due to the loss of an animal’s natural predator. Predators are extremely important in an ecosystem, and they are nature’s way of controlling the animal population. In William Stolzenburg’s book, Where the Wild Things Were: Life, Death, and Ecological Wreckage in a Land of Vanishing Predators, he addresses the importance of predators in an ecosystem. He discusses an experiment done by a zoologist named Robert T. Paine. Paine decided to do an experiment to see what happens when one disrupts an ecosystem. He conducted his experiment on rocks along the shore in which a species of starfish was the top predator. Paine’s experiment consisted of grabbing the starfish off the rocks and throwing them into the ocean. His results showed that one single species has a tremendous effect on its ecosystem. After getting rid of the top predator, about half of the species that
Hunting couldn’t have revolutionized if our ancestors didn’t start. However, before the Europeans arrived, the “Plain Hunters” were living and thriving off of the buffalo. “Cheyenne, Arapaho, Crow, and Dakota were late comers to the west. They used to be settled down waiting for the heard. They soon erupted in to life of nomadic Indians. They “ran” with the heard going where ever the buffalo went” (http://www.cabrillo.edu/~crsmith/noamer_plains.html). Hunting doesn’t stop improving there, it continues on. In order for the buffalo to go down they had to work together, because of their weapon of choice. When the 15th century rolled around the gun appeared with it.
Many people have misconceptions about hunting. One such misconception is that hunting is easy and any person can go sit in the woods and wait for an animal to cross the hunter’s path. However, people who believe this are sorely mistaken. Hunting is not just sitting in the woods with a rifle; there are many other aspects that must be considered. An individual must have all preparations complete, purchase or gather the equipment needed, and know what to listen for while in the woods.
Thousands of years ago, hunting may have been the cause of the extinction of the North American large land mammals. “Moving up into the 1940’s and 50’s some of today’s most prominent game animals were almost non-existent.”(Kerry G) Over-hunting will directly cause the decline in the particular animal’s species. This will effect everything around it, for example ...
The topic of hunting has always been filled with controversy, excitement and trepidation for the environment. Both sides have varies ideas as to what is wrong and right. I realize that many people do not understand why people have to hunt or why people do hunt. One of the questions that kept coming to mind is why so many people are against hunting when their ancestors hunted and without hunting many of them would not be alive today. This question is relevant because many people are becoming to be worried that animals are in pain when being hunted and that it is unfair for people to hunt selfless animals with modern weaponry, and with many people going against the right to own guns.
If this trend continues, by the year 2055, the number of species which are hunted could be increased. reduced by as much as 81 percent. (Satchell 31) Not only does hunting reduce the number of animals, it can also be unnecessarily cruel to the creatures. When deer are bowhunted, they often are. not instantly killed by the snare.
Imagine a world with barren trees in overgrown fields. The only sound to be heard is the wind blowing through the tall grass. A world once full of life now lays empty do to extinction. This is the result of a world that failed to understand the importance of wildlife conservation. Why is wildlife so important? What steps need to be taken to preserve wildlife? How can one become involved in wildlife conservation? These are all important questions that need to be explored in order to help maintain the delicate ecosystem on Earth. Wildlife plays a vital role in this fragile ecosystem and without wildlife the human race would not survive.
