The human body is, in its simplest observation, an extensively vast web of cells. The human body is one of the most complex productions in the world. Looking at just one part of the body such as the eye makes it apparent the complexity of the body’s makeup. The body is comprised of cells that come together to make tissues. These tissues fit together to make organs. The organs coexist to form organ systems. These organ system make up the entire organism that is man.
The Nervous System is the pivotal system of the human body. Everything that goes on in the body is regulated by the nerves of the Nervous System. The nervous system has a few basic building blocks that make it in its entirety. Nerve cells are comprised of a few parts that are vital in their acceptance and sending of stimuli. Close to the body of the cells are small branch like projection called dendrites. Dendrites are the receptors on the cells that take in stimuli sent from the previous cell. Next is the nucleus of the cell situated in the center of the cell body. From the dendrites, the stimuli travel along a long tail like projections of cell called the axon. At the end of the axon there are small branches with bulbs on the end called axon terminal in which the stimuli are sent into a space between cells called the synapse in which the dendrites of another cell picks up and the cycle begins again.
There are two main basic cells: afferent neurons and efferent neurons. Afferent neurons act as the cells that gather the information or stimuli from sensory receptors and take it back to the spinal cord. Efferent neurons do just the opposite. Neurons dispatch signals to other cells through thin fibers called axons, that cause chemicals acknowledged as neurotransmitters to be released at junctions identified as synapses. A synapse gives a command to the cell and the entire communication process typically takes only a fraction of a millisecond.
The nervous system controls and organizes all parts of the body. The brain receives all the messages and tells the respective body parts to do their jobs. Neurons pass through the nervous system to receive and transfer messages in a form of an electrical impulse. In order for the brain to receive all the messages a special chemical known as neurotransmitters carries messages to the brain. There are many types of neurotransmitter such as dopamine, GABA, insulin etc. Neurotransmitters are found in between small gaps of neurons called the synapses. A neurotransmitter works by quickly moving over the synapse and joins to sites on other sides, in order to restart the electrical impulse. Later they are broken down and receive new messages. Neurotransmitters are important for our body to make responses but it can be damaged of destroyed by certain things such as drugs. There are many drugs that can affect them an example is cocaine and caffeine. There have been many effective solutions for these drugs but it is not proven to remove the effects on the body completely.

The human nervous system is divided into two parts, the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system, CNS, is just the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system, PNS, includes the nerves and neurons that extend outwards from the CNS, to transmit information to your limbs and organs, for example. Communication between your cells is extremely important, neurons are the messengers that relay information to and from your brain. Nerve cells generate electrical signals to transmit information.
Neurons are the basic units of the brain. Above is a picture of a prototypical neuron with its parts labeled by number. The objects labeled by the number one are Dendrites. Dendrites conduct nerve impulses towards the nerve cell. The nucleus, which regulates activities in the cell is labelled 2. Labeled 3, the soma or cell body, is the body of the neuron. The myelinated sheath, of the structure labeled 4, acts like an insulator. Not all neurons have myelinated sheaths. In the types that do, messages to said to 'jump' along the axon. Structure 6 is the axon, which conducts impulses away from the cell body. Finally, structures labeled 8 are called terminal branches or synaptic terminals. Every organ in the human body is composed of one or more tissues. The study of these tissues is known as histology. It is because of histology that the structure of organs can be researched and understood. Since organs are composed of tissues, it is important to understand each tissue type, their structure, their location, and their functions to better understand how each organ operates within the human body.
The brain consists of both neurons and glia cells. The neurons, which are cells housed in a cell body called a Soma, have branches which extend from them, referred to as dendrites. From these dendrites extend axons which send and receive impulses, ending at junction points called synapses. It is at these synapse points that the transfer of information takes place.
The nervous system is composed of all nerve tissue in the body. This organ system forms a communication and coordination network between all parts of the body. It plays a major role in everyday activities such as breathing, walking even blinking. It is made up of nerve tissues to receive and transmit stimuli to nervous centers and initiate response. Neurons are nerve cells that transmit signals from one location of the body to another. With damage to the nervous system the body would not be able to function properly. The body has to be well taken care of in order to insure proper regulation. Nervous system is one of the major organ systems that is responsible for the coordination of biological activities inside the body through cells called neurons. It is composed of the brain and spinal cord which are surrounded by protective layers of bone and membrane tissues called meninges. There are two major divisions in the nervous system; first one is the central nervous system (CNS) and the other being the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS is composed of the brain, spinal cord, and retina while the PNS includes the sensory neurons, ganglia, and connecting neurons. The nervous system’s main function is to coordinate all of the activities in the body. The main organs are the cerebellum, which controls and coordinates movement. The cerebrum, is the center for conscious thought, learning, and memory. The last main organ is the brain stem. The brain stem keeps the automatic systems in your body working. Problems of the nervous system include, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, and multiple sclerosis. You can care for your nervous system by wearing a seatbelt, wearing a helmet, and by not using drugs or alcohol. Something very confusing about the nervous system is that the left side of human brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body!
