Aspellira says in Rocio Reyes book The Psychology of Adolescence, generation gap is just a concept that developed by the researcher in studying the people behavior between the generations. Mrs. Aspellira mentioned “there is no generation gap between grandchildren and grandparents”1 , which it also mentioned in this book if the children punished by their parents, they feel free to ask their grandparents for their needs, that means the grandparent appreciate and understand the needs of their grandchildren. So it is not difficult for the parents to understand their children, it’s a matter of time. “Bridging the Gaps” began by defining the three most dominant generations in the workforce: Baby Boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964), Generation X (those born between 1965 and 1981) and Generation Y (those born during or after 1982). Wilson stresses the importance of understanding each generation’s unique characteristics to take advantage of their strengths. This approach also minimizes confrontation when multiple generations work together. Wilson lists characteristics such as being entrepreneurial, ardent about social causes, and independent as similarities between Baby Boomers and Generation Y, while Baby Boomers and Generation X both value loyalty, focus on finances and believe in a hierarchy of order. In life there are many people, things, or places that we experience that have influenced our lives so unique and powerful there unlike any other. Some women experience such alteration with the birth of a new baby. While for another person this life alteration may be making partner at a law firm. Though everyone experiences life on a different level one thing is for certain, not everything in life is a good experience. Everything in life is balanced, and with every joy comes some form of heartache. For some people it takes an emotional toll so incoherent that it never fades. After World War I many men experienced the let down affiliated with the war, and discovered there fight for admiration and loyalty led to nothing more than a expulsion of lost values, thus leading to the “lost generation.”
Every person belongs to a generation: you associate yourselves with a particular set of people usually based on age such as “Baby Boomers” from 1946 to 1964, “Generation X” from 1965 to 1979, and “Millennials” from 1980 to 2000, (Smola, 364). Parents’ generations differ from their children, and sometimes within their significant other. My parents, separated by two years, are both considered “Baby Boomers”, and my sister and I, also separated by two years are both considered “Millennials”. “Generation X” separates our generations, and as you can assume there are many differences between the two: “Baby Boomers” experienced the immense development of the economy and education (Kupperschmidt, 4).

So Their hard work made them learn the value of money the harder way. Based on these experiences they tried to give their children, the Gen Y a better life. They put in every effort to make their children’s lives more joyous and happy. Gen X believed in extreme hard work, leading simple lives and having in depth planning for the future. Their hard work made them work at the grassroots level and they knew the basics of every work done by them. Their concepts were very clear. Gen Y on the other hand lives in the copy paste age so their concepts are not so clear. Gen X feels that Gen Y is overconfident, irresponsible, and lacks awareness in many things. They do not plan about the future.
My generation has been handed a lot of issues to hopefully be solved by my generation. The government has a national debt and unsustainable welfare programs. Programs that are well-meaning but cannot be financed by my generation. Changes will have to come through inventive minds of my generation. Also currently there are very few job opportunities for my generation. Many college graduates cannot get jobs. College cost are at an all time high, many of my generation wonder if it is worth the cost or is it even a possibility. The American dream of a college education, a good job, nice home, and car are seeming more and more unattainable to my generation.

As time goes on a gap is created between the past generations and the current generations. This gap between men in the 1950s and the men now (2009) are similar and different in terms of the roles they play, their attitudes towards society, women and work, and their identities. The root to the generation gap in India is due to the influence of media especially television and movies have caused people to look up to the characters and strives to act like them, which reinforce gender stereotypes and identities. For example, Love Aaj Kal, an Indian movie released in 2009 is a contrast of couples in the 1980s and present day. In the movie one of the actors says, “Aaj ke ladke bauth modern aur independent ho gaye hai. Hum aare zamane mein baath hi kuch aur thi” (Veer Singh). In translation, it means that, “Boys these days are very modern and independent. In our time things were different”(Veer Singh). As the largest generation on the planet (Jenkins), the Millennials (otherwise known as generation Y) have faced plenty of scrutiny from the previous generations. A Millennial is the demographic group made up of anyone who was born between the years 1980 and 2000. This group of young people has proved to be a great contribution to society and also to the advancement of technology. They do things in their own ways and on their own terms, always approaching a problem in the most efficient way possible for everyone. Millennials have settled numerous issues in our society and they are expected to change our world exponentially. Millennials adapt to new technologies very quickly, however, while Millennials see themselves in generally positive terms such as ‘tech-savvy’ and ‘up to date’, many people from the older generations see them as ‘spoiled’ and ‘lazy’. The new technologies do make living everyday life easier and more functional, however, Millennials are not at all ‘lazy’ for taking advantage of them.
