Gandhi the Great
He was shot three times in the chest because he stood up for what he believed in. Because he was responsible for freeing India from British-rule, he was the most loved man in his country. He was only 78 when he was shot, but Gandhi made those years well spent. Gandhi was a man of peace and fairness, he spoke the truth and was very successful in almost everything he engaged in. He fought for equal rights even when others fought back. Mohandas Gandhi overcame the world by freeing India and Africa from oppression, declaring the truth of racial discrimination in Africa, and inspiring others to take a stand against racial inequality.
One of Gandhi's greatest achievements was freeing India and Africa from oppression. He took a case in South Africa and only planned to stay there for a little while but ended up staying for twenty one years (World Book). He stayed there for so long is because he was fighting for Indians' rights (Yapp). Gandhi first noticed that there were equality issues in South Africa when he got on a train with a first class bus ticket. This train was supposed to go from Durbin to Pretoria. The train did not have enough seats in first class for everyone, so a worker told him he had to go to the back so a white man could have his seat. When Gandhi refused, the police were called and he was removed from the train and forced to spend the night in the bitterly cold train station (Schuldt). From that day on Gandhi was set on trying to bring together Indians
and the white people. As mentioned before, he spent twenty-one years there but he never did

officially make equality a law. Although there was still some racial discrimination there Gandhi gained a lot of experience from this movement (...

...ry next day and the country was both in shock and very depressed. The whole world was mourning when the press released the news. Gandhi was shot on January fourteenth 1948. Godse was hung in 1949 for his murder. It is very important to remember Gandhi. He was so special because he was peaceful, yet effective. This is proof that nonviolence can cause anything that violence can. This
is the way that Gandhi overcame the world, with peace and satyagraha.

1948, January 30th, the assassination of Gandhi. “Just an old man in a loincloth in distant India: Yet when he died, humanity wept." This was the observation of a newspaper correspondent at the death of Mahatma Gandhi. The tragedy occurred in New Delhi as the gaunt old man walked to a prayer-meeting and was engulfed by one of history 's great ironies - a life-long pacifist and promoter of non-violence struck down by an assassin 's bullet. Gandhi 's violent death came just months after the realization of his long sought-after goal -
...Because of Gandhi’s power, his flaw, and his catastrophe, one would say that Gandhi fits the model of a Greek tragic hero. Gandhi’s power was his heightened goodness, proven by his innumerable civil disobedience acts, where he continued to fight even while he was regularly jailed. His flaw was his tolerance and acceptance of everyone which led to his catastrophic assassination by Nathuram Godse. Gandhi’s teachings of nonviolence and peace still live on today, as they have inspired many other human rights leaders, such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. Gandhi’s teachings are responsible for the successes of civil rights movements in other countries. He not only helped free India from British rule, but also gave people new thoughts about violence and imperialism around the world. Even today, India continues to live and remember the tutelage of Gandhi.
Mohandas Gandhi was a non-violent promoter for Indian independence. He was married young at 13,and went to London to go to law school.Gandhi got his degree there and was on his way to being a lawyer. He went to his first case, but couldn't even speak. Gandhi then got invited to South Africa from a businessman. Gandhi’s luck their was no good either.European racism came to him, after he got kicked off of a train, because he was “colored” and was holding a first class ticket. When Gandhi fought back because of it,was arrested and was sent to jail. After this, he became know as as a leader.Gandhi returned to India in 1896,and he was disgusted by it.British wanted them to wear their clothes, copy their manners, accept their standards of beauty, but Gandhi refused.Gandhi wanted people to live free of all class and wealth.Gandhi tried so hard and was more successful then any other man in India. They won independence in 1947. Gandhi’s non-violent movement worked because,Gandhi used clever planning, mass appeal, conviction, and compassion to win independence for India.
The movie “Gandhi” begins with a very compelling scene with the foreshadowing of Gandhi’s assassination. He is walking with a crowd of people and is greeted by many. This was followed by a scene of thousands mourning his death from all around the world. Later, the movie takes a flashback to a younger Gandhi during his days in South Africa. He is seen on a train and though he is riding with a first-class ticket, he is forced to move to third-class due to him being a minority. He refuses and is thrown off of the train. Back in India, he never directly experienced this type of injustice. From there, he continues his attempts at non-violent protests. Gandhi’s main goal was to bring an end to racial oppression as well as create equality. He made little success in South Africa after being arrested multiple times. After his release in South Africa, he decided to move back to India to hopefully bring change there as well as hopefully gaining India’s independence back from the British Empire. Throughout the movie, there are many people who support his ways, many who try to be him down, and many who honestly don’t know if his ways of non-violence are worth it.
Gandhi died for upholding Muslim equality and was assassinated in 1948 by a Hindu. Gandhi's principle of nonviolence repeatedly held back many struggles at key moments. As a result, privileged groups in the urban centers and countryside were able to detach the struggle for political independence from the struggle for radical social change—using Gandhi's own goals of social justice. The British were gone, but the bureaucracy and police they built up still functioned with little change. Gandhi's will had been strong, but class forces proved stronger.
...orks and are only a small slice of the impression he left on the world and especially Indian and Muslim culture. Few people can compare to the non-violent methods that Gandhi employed to change so much by doing so little. The Indians and Muslims will forever be in his debt, and the British government was taught a lesson in non-violent protests. Gandhi will always continue to be an epiphany of the peaceful warrior.
Gandhi was a well knowledgeable and unique person who found hope in struggles that he never thought would shape who he was. Gandhi was born in a Hindu family, and even though he was the youngest he made a huge impact on others (“Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi” pg 3). He had his older brother who helped him with his education when his father passed away (“Mohandas Gandhi”). Gandhi was very religious even when he was little his brothers tried to make him eat meat (it wasn’t bad to eat meat in Hinduism when you are little), but he refused (“Mohandas Gandhi”). Gandhi respected his religion and was a respectful towards others.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The pursuit of truth does not permit violence on one's opponent”. Karamchand Gandhi lived through October 2, 1869 to January 30, 1948. When Gandhi was young, “Mohandas Gandhi was shy, soft-spoken, and only a mediocre student at school.” He got an arranged marriage at age 13 to Kasturba and had four sons. Gandhi’s wife, Kasturba, supported him until her death in 1944 (Rosenberg Para 2). Gandhi is considered the national father of India, also known as “bapu”. He spent 20 years in South Africa fighting for the rights of Indians. He always lived a simplistic lifestyle, and dressed culturally (Para 1). Gandhi’s independence struggle for India, his teachings of nonviolence and “Satyagraha” (truth), and the good deeds of him made him a Mahatma (great soul), which shows that Mohandas .K. Gandhi lived a life of consequence.
The famous leader Mahatma Gandhi’s death was unjustified because he was the primary leader for India’s Independence movement and also a leader for the non-violent civil disobedience movement that would influence the world. Others they may have seen Gandhi's death as justified considering the things Gandhi dedicated his life to fixing and fighting for some people didn't want it to change and saw him as a threat. Gandhi was assassinated by a man named Nathuram Vinayak Godse on Friday, January 30,1948. Gandhi was actually almost killed 5 times before the actual event of his death, by the same person. It took Godse 14 years after his 1st attempt to finally complete his goal in killing Gandhi. It was a tragic event that left a lot of people devastated and hurt that someone would hate someone so much they would have to end their life in order for their to be peace. Like Gandhi always said “ An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind. “ Although Gandhi had passed on his thoughts and goals for peace continued on “ A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the souls of its people.”
“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an open ocean; If a few drops in the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.” On January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Vinayak Godse. Gandhi died by a bullet wound. This took place in New Delhi. Gandhi is most known for freeing India and being a great leader in the world. The assassination of Gandhi was unjust because Gandhi was a strong leader and fought for India’s freedom, however some believe Gandhi was a hypocrite because he served in a war as a british army soldier. Gandhi was a very motivational man.
Gandhi has influenced many around the world with his non-violent protests and motivated changes in civil rights for countless others. Truth and nonviolence were Gandhi's key ideas. He lived simply but changed so much and continues to influence plenty of people today.
Gandhi was a great man in a lot of ways he was born on October 2, 1869 in Western India. At the age of thirteen he married Kasturbi who was also thirteen before his father died. When he did his mother sent him to law school in England this was in 1888. While he was there he fell in love so to speak with the nonviolent ways of the Hindu scriptures of the Bhagavad-Gita, and in the bible tellings of Jesus.
Gandhi has had followers and imitators in many parts of the world. Passive resistance was adopted by African Americans led by Martin Luther King Jr., the Solidarity movement in Poland and the Burmese resistance against their Military rulers to name a few . Not all have brought victory. Gandhi’s influence is still strong. He remains one of the few great positive figures of the 20th Century, a century that has known horror and genocide of every sort.
Mahatma Gandhi has had a lasting effect on our world today. His philosophy and ideals have been adopted by many prominent figures in society. A powerful leader, he helped two countries in their struggle for basic rights. Gandhi is an amazing example of the things that can be achieved without violence. He proved that satyagraha is a powerful path to victory. Since his time many leaders have been inspired by his example and anyone who tries to change the world for the better using peaceful means owes something to Gandhi.
(Bio.com.) As a result, the British imprisoned more than 60,000 people. A year later, Gandhi accepted a truce and called off the civil disobedience movement. (“Gandhi, Mahatma”)
