“You must be the change you wish to see in the world” this were one of gandhi’s quote. Gandhi was the leader of the Indian independence movement when British was ruling India. Gandhi lead India to independence and lead civil right movements all across the world. Gandhi wanted everyone to be equal and live free of class, wealth, and educational distinctions.There were a lot of different reasons on why Gandhi’s nonviolent movement worked. Three reasons why Gandhi’s movement worked is because disciplined civil disobedience, accepting jail time, and embracing the enemy. The first reason why Gandhi’s movement worked so well is because he is disciplined in civil disobedience. Civil disobedience is the refusal to obey certain laws and paw taxes and fines. “Discipline shown by straight lines and no resistance to steel clubs”(Doc B). Gandhi disciplined his men very well to a point where his men would follow his orders under any circumstances. While resisting the to the steel clus the salt tax got publicized and that could win support around the world. Gandhi spent 2,338 in jail between 1908 and 1947 and he was determined to spend his time in jail happily and peacefully (Doc C). Gandhi did this for a lot of reasons. First he did this so that his followers would be more likely to sacrifice. His followers were complaining that he didn’t know how it felt but know he understands. Another reason why he did this is because the British would be impressed about his determination. Also, if Gandhi went to jail the world opinion would likely move to Gandhi's side.
