Executive Summary
This report covers an evaluation of the myIT Labs software. It provides an insight into why the software does not meet its intended objective of instructing individuals in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel. This is based on weekly testing.
This report includes findings that outline the undesirable aspects that compromise the software including the layout, content learned, the ease of use and the Instruction Clarity and how these aspects fail to create a positive learning environment.
The report also includes a comparison to a much more sophisticated instructional website which aims at making Microsoft Word and Excel much more pleasant to learn.
Finally a list of recommendations is provided that demonstrate changes that can be made and implemented, such as easier navigation, faster load times, user face explanation and more precise instructions, which would greatly improve the software.

Introduction
An Information System (Oz, 2008) is a working system which processes and stores operational data to produce useful information. Information Systems are important for organisations for many reasons, mainly for solving problems and to assist in making decisions (Oz, 2008). Systems need to meet users’ needs to ensure that users are able to effectively use the system and maximise its features (Oz, 2008). Meeting users’ needs also assists with time frames, solving problems and decision making (Oz, 2008).

With the rapid growth of technology in America’s society today, the use of computers in school classrooms has increased tremendously—an action that certainly has become beneficial to students, educators, and parents. The use of computers has positively skyrocketed over the past ten years. Not only are computers utilized daily in large companies across the world, but the everyday use in classrooms has also become prevalent. Using modern technology to assist school instructors with his or her daily lessons should definitely be regarded as a positive, acceptable method of instruction and not definitely does not prohibit students from understanding or critical thinking.
In the business world today, technology is becoming an essential staple. Every big business relies on it one way or another. More importantly than just technology itself, the use of management information systems is what guides a company in terms of catering to its customers and knowing what moves to make next. Management information systems (MIS) can be defined is the study of people, technology, and organizations (What is MIS?). However, that is a very general definition because there is a lot more that comes out of the use of these MIS systems.

In the end, this class has really opened my eyes to everything that is out there to supplement my teaching and my students learning. I am extremely happy that this class did not teach me how to use Microsoft Office , but I do wish that we could have had the opportunity to work more with the material rather than merely reading about the material. The Multimodal Task definitely allowed us to configure a lesson using and working with technology, but if we had more time, I wish we could have done more than one task to accomplish such goals.
There is no doubt that computers are firmly implanted in our nation’s daily existence. Everyday I use a computer at least once, either writing a paper, surfing the Internet or checking my e-mail. On a recent trip to the library to do research I was quickly escorted by a librarian to the variety of computer databases, which are the fastest and most current source of information I found a survey in Statistical Abstracts of the United States comparing students use of computers in kindergarten through college from 1984 to 1993. A total of 27.3% of students used computers in schools in 1984, while a total of 59.0% used computers in 1993. This shows a steady rise in scholastic computer use and these figures are probably greatly inflated by now in 1997.

The wiki is a browser based editing program which allows multiple users to contribute and edit text. It includes editing tools similar to a word processor that allow the user to control text size and color, make the text bold or italicized, and enter web links and pictures. Changes are tracked by the software and successive edits can be monitored or even rolled back to a previous version. The program allows email notification of changes made as chosen by the user in the settings of their account (Cunningham, 2002; Crocker, Hutchings, Nussey, Park, & Springate, 2010).
In less than a decade, computer use progressed from programming classes for a few of the better students, to literacy classes for all students, to the integration of computers and technology into the curriculum. Now, there is a goal for educators to use technology as a tool in efforts to teach more effectively by using a variety of strategies to meet different needs in a diverse classroom. This will take training and commitment to keep up in an area that changes quickly, but the benefits to teachers and students are greater that the effort it will take to stay informed; computers increase productivity of students and make learning a fun experience. They help students become better problem-solvers instead of just rote learners.
