Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be a teacher. I personally remember the times when I used to insist on playing school with my younger sister, and I used to love to pretend to be a teacher and make activities for her to do. I even had my own grade book and my own easel where I was able to express my creativity. My dream ever since I was a little girl was to become a teacher, and I think it is amazing that what used to be a pastime and a fun activity for me suddenly became something that I want to pursue in the future. I have always admired and appreciated teachers, and I still do. Teachers have always had a positive impact on my life, and I really would like to give back and become a teacher myself so that I could have the ability to inspire students just like my teachers have inspired me in one way or another. Rather, teachers adopt a particular behavior because it puts them in a satisfying relationship to the colleagues or authorities with whom they are identifying. They do come to believe in the opinions and values they adopt, though not very strongly. They want to be like some particular colleagues or authorities in the institute. Continuous reward or punishment is not necessary in identification approach.
In my life, my favorite teachers were always the ones who taught lessons inside and outside the classroom. They taught us about our past, our language and the world around us for tests and quizzes while also teaching us how to navigate through life with their lessons that weren’t needed for our grades. For me, I wanted to be that kind of person. I knew I wanted to help others when they needed help, and I knew I wanted to do that as a teacher.
In order to see what it’s like to teach in a school setting, the proficient way of doing that is to go observe a teacher with students in a classroom. In my case, I‘ve spent twenty-five hours throughout this semester observing three math teachers at Bayside High School located in Queens, New York. To be considerate of each teacher’s identity, I’ll be referring to their names as Teacher A who teaches geometry, Teacher B who teaches algebra, and Teacher C who teaches pre-calculus. I’ve taken extensive notes on the diversity of students, the issues of poverty, the methods of how teachers present information along with managing classrooms, and their expectations of their pupils.
To begin out of the countless professions one has to chose from in the world today I have chosen to become a teacher. I have chosen to become a teacher because I myself am a product of some whom I consider to be the best teachers in the world. As a child in North Carolina I was inspired by a wonderful woman named Mrs. Hollyfield. Mrs. Hollyfield taught me that no star was too far out of reach, if I put my mind to accomplishing my goal I could make it. Mrs. Hollyfield inspired me to be the best I could be at anything I wanted to be. As I have grown I have had other important teachers, some whom I am surrounded by daily whom inspire me to set out to accomplish my dreams. These wonderful inspiring people in my life have led me to the decision of becoming a teacher.

I’m guessing my title has you judging me for making a parody of the movie, The Passion of the Christ, which is totally acceptable. During my teacher interview, Mrs. Sell kept hammering the idea of being a passionate and enthusiastic teacher. She uttered passionate and enthusiastic numerous times throughout the interview and that was the one of the biggest takeaways. Yes, I interviewed my mother and it was really interesting to hear and understand the jargon my mom was using. I never really had a heart to heart conversation about her views on the educational system and it made me realize that I am really fortunate to have a mother that knows of ins-and-outs of education. Creating relationships with students and between students can help to establish a positive environment for both teaching and learning. According to Methods for Effective Teaching, “an optimal teacher-student relationship consists of equal parts dominance and cooperation.” Being assertive and persistent will allow students to understand what is expected from them and how to behave. In addition, showing an interest in what the students have to say and encouraging them fosters a feeling of acceptance. A balance between dominance and cooperation is needed in order to be respected and listened to.
A relationship is defined as a way people or groups interact or behave toward each other. As a teacher, interaction with students, parents, administrators, as well as other teachers is a skill one has to develop and perfect. Each situation will require different perspectives to understand the united goal of bettering tomorrow’s leaders. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you” (Psalm 32:8) Identifying key points for each relationship is necessary for facilitating a healthy learning environment.
Becoming a teacher has been the ultimate aspiration for myself since the first day I walked into kindergarten. As a very timid student, it was a difficult task transitioning from being with my mother everyday, to being part of a classroom environment full of strangers. However, my kindergarten teacher helped me through this transition smoothly, and adequately. I very quickly learned to love school. Soon after, I knew I would aspire to become a teacher. I would spend countless hours at home with a blackboard, acting as a teacher to my imaginary students throughout my elementary school years.
The teacher that I observed was Mrs. Cynthia Carney. She is the kindergarten teacher at Greystone Elementary school. As my first time in the classroom, I tried to observe as much as possible. I had a great first impression of the classroom, it is a very positive environment, and the teacher has definitely established a clear routine and rules that the students follow. The teacher did a very brief (5-10 minute) science lesson/introduction to the unit on weather. Although the teacher did not inform my partner and I about the exact objectives for the lesson, it was clear that she wanted the students to learn about making observations about weather. One good quality a teacher should have is, respect for the students. Each person’s ideas and opinions should be valued and not judged. They should be able to express themselves without feeling insecure. Another good quality is, having high expectations for your students. Each student should be encouraged to do their best and achieve goals that they may have never met before. Another good quality is, I believe a teacher should have is good communication skills. They should keep not only the students informed on what is going on in the class, they should definitely keep the parents informed as well. Teachers need to know how to communicate with all their students because some are at different levels than others.
I am so excited about one day teaching our children. My goal is to be a positive influence on a child and I cannot imagine anything more important to do with my life than helping children. A quote from Herbert Kohl sums up my feelings of becoming an educator: “I believe the impulse to teach is fundamentally altruistic and represents a desire to share what you value and to empower others. I am not talking about the job of teaching so much as the calling to teach. Most teachers I know have felt that calling at some time in their lives.” My dream is to someday soon fulfill my calling.
When I was in high school, I had various teachers in every class, but my University prep teacher was special among all the teachers. She was genuinely dedicated to all the students in her class, and she never forsook the students who those needed help. She was supportive, passionate, amusing, and most importantly devoted to every student in her class. Currently there are numerous teachers having a mindset of just doing their job instead of being more valuable for students. Every teacher who makes the students feel special about them have high attributes. There are three main attributes of a great teacher, such as devotion to the students, eagerness to have a significant modification, and being inspirational.
