Working at the same organization for the past 26 years, I have experienced new leadership and new employees and many reorganization plans. It has been an amazing advantage to witness a new evolution of a changing environment and how it has impacted the organization’s culture in different ways of communication, a new generation of people entering the workforce, and changes in procedures in employment strategies. Throughout my years of employment, the college has experienced a dramatic impact on advances to technology and new work structures that has changed the culture of the college.

This is a huge benefit for employees, who are working parents. Employers who allow for flexible work scheduling have experienced a decrease in absenteeism and employee turnover accompanied by an increase in morale and productivity. At the college, flexible work schedules for full-time employees must be approved by the employee’s supervisor. Employees requesting flexible work schedule are usually due to attending a meeting that is outside of working hours or their participation is required at a meeting while they are away on college business. Most full-time employees work schedule are during daytime hours, so employees who are required to attend evening meetings can flex their work schedule. Consequently, most part-time employees are able to select their work schedule, and they customarily work Monday through Thursday ranging from four to five hours a day. Employees requesting to work from home are usually due to taking care of sick family members, medical reasons, or childcare. Over the years the number of full-time workers has decreased. When full-time positons become vacant, the leaders in the organization reevaluate the positions to see if enough work exists for the positions to remain full-time. Over the past few years, the college has experienced budgetary constraints due to low enrollment and a reduction in funding from state and county levels. This has caused the leaders to make the decision to reduce many vacant full-time positions to part-time. There are differences that exist between full-time and part-time employment. Part-time workers can work a maximum of 24 hours a week. Although full-time employees are given vacation and sick time, personal days, and a benefits compensation package, this incentive is not given to part-time employees. The differences in full-time and part-time employment has never changed at the organization. Looking back on my 26-year history with the organization, there were many full-time employees at the college. Our department employed 12 full-time employees, and currently there are only 4 full-time employees. For example, many full-time positions have been restructured to two-part time positions for cost-saving
