Job related injuries occur every day in the workplace. These injuries often occur because employees are not trained in the proper job procedure. This analysis will provide management with a tool to improve the organization's safety performance by reducing work related injuries. A systematic approach to work injury investigation and analysis is essential to an effective prevention program. Workers in the Truss Construction shop have been upset about what they describe as unsafe working conditions and the company’s failure to accept responsibility. In addition, the workers have contacted OSHA, and leaked information to the local newspaper which has caused unwanted publicity, and may have jeopardized sales. The primary reason for the analysis is to prevent the recurrence of similar work related injuries. A work injury analysis is not a mere repetition of the worker's explanation of the injury, but includes the evaluation of the facts, physical evidence, existing records, opinions, and the statements of the affected employee and witnesses. It involves identifying the causal factors and provides recommendations for corrective action to be taken to prevent the recurrence of similar injuries. After the injury occurs conduct the analysis as soon as possible. The less time there is between the injury and its analysis the more specific and constructive the information obtained will be. This is because facts are clearer, details more accurately remembered, and conditions are nearest to those at the time of the injury when the investigation is conducted soon after the injury. The shop managers and shop foreman has the most influence on injury reporting. There are several steps shop managers and shop foreman can take to ensure that all injuries are reported. Four of the most important steps are train employees to understand the reasons to report injuries, no matter how minor. Encourage employees to report injuries by letting workers know you appreciate it when they do report in a timely manner. Shop managers and shop foreman should also let their employees know that they are dissatisfied with late reporting. Analyze each injury and take corrective measures that are required.
