The wooly mammoth, Mammuthus Primigenius, was a large animal that can reach heights of four meters. The woolly mammoth though giant ate a diet of grasses, twigs, and leaves. Because the woolly animal was so large it did not have many predators the two main predators were, early human ansesstors and large sabertooth cats. The wooly mammoth species was able to survive through the ice age but became extinct when they could not handle the major climate change. Though they did become extinct scientist look to modern giants for answers, these giants, the Asian and African elephants.
The Wooly Mammoth is built up of eukaryotic cells. These eukaryotic cells have nucleuses and many other organelles. The cells are built up of many organelles. Though the cells have many organelles that are all required to keep everything running, some have very distinctive jobs. One organelle is the cell membrane, the cell membrane supports and protects the contents of the cell which makes it a key organelle for the cells survival. Wooly mammoths have two distinct genders, male and female. The female is slightly smaller than the male in weight and height. The woolly mammoth has many distinct features that make it such a recognizable prehistoric animal. One of these key features is the woolly mammoth tusks. Woolly mammoth tusks are usually measured between two to three meters but, the largest found tusk was over four meters. The tusks were used for scavenging for food and protection. similarly mammoths also had very long hairs that helped to keep them warm in the cold climates. Wooly mammoths shire size also makes them distinct, woolly mammoths grew to around three meters high at the shoulder. Woolly mammoths had very long trunks with a large upper lip used for grabbing tufts of grass. One last key characteristic that makes a woolly mammoth so distinct is their small ears.
