“She works hard for the money, so you better treat her right,” words of Donna Summer expressing that women contain the utmost amount of grit and diligence as anyone else. Those lyrics were written in 1983, as Summer witnessed a restroom attendant get constantly mistreated by patrons. Yet 37 years later the United States ,as a whole, are still not “treating her right” by giving women equal pay as men. Gender inequality has evolved efficiently throughout the years. Women have proven to society that they are self sufficient in the household and work force.

Starting with getting the job, women have more criticism and worries just going to an interview. The first things that employers look at when they are interviewing a woman are: is she dressed provocatively, does her hair fit our brand image, is she wearing too much makeup, and does she speak with an attitude. These are all factors that automatically set women at a disadvantage before even getting the job. After acquiring the position women, there are still obstacles that women have to adapt to. An article from the Georgetown University Law Center stated, “ Much of women’s work involves the provision of comfort, emotional support, and care that existing evaluations fail to capture” (Quinn 1). Some employers choose to ignore the extra steps that women have to take in order to create success for themselves. If asked the reasoning would be to try to refrain from showing any favoritism amongst employees or an attempt not to display sexism. Although, giving employees the praise they deserve, especially women who tend to be more outspoken in the workforce, can promote a more healthy work environment.
