Recommended: Winston Churchill speech on leadership in World War 2

“Never give in! Never give in! Never, never, never, never, never -- in nothing great or small, large or petty -- never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.” ("Winston Churchill." Contemporary). Winston Churchill was quite possibly known as “one of the greatest statesmen who ever lived” and served in a multitude of ways for over sixty years including, Prime Minister during World War II and in times of strife. He passed numerous in acts in favor of the people which affected their everyday lives, made countless speeches which are still famous to this day and most importantly, led Britain to victory during World War II (“Sir Winston Churchill”).

He would learn immediately after that German Nazis then began to invade Britain's surrounding countries including the Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg. In the year of 1940 France fell to the Nazis, and Britain was alone in their own fight. That same year German fighter jets began air raids on Britain itself, leaving the country grim and feeling a constant threat. ("Winston S. Churchill." History.com). Instead of backing down, Churchill took immediate action in meeting with U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt, through the Lend and Lease Act. Churchill persuaded Roosevelt in to lending Britain war supplies such as, ammunition, tanks, guns and planes as allies, before Americans were able to enter the fight against Germany ("Winston S. Churchill." History.com). The United States finally entered World War II in 1941, helping Allies win the war against Germany (“Winston Churchill.” Bio.com). In efforts to try and create social reforms in Britain that were unfavorable, Churchill was unsuccessful and lost his time as Prime Minister in 1945 (“Winston Churchill.” Bio.com). Over the course of the next six years, as the war had come to a close, Churchill became the leader for the opposition party while still continuing on his impacts on world affairs. Then in 1946, Churchill delivered another one of his famous speeches titled “Iron Curtain,” which warned of Soviet domination the Eastern portion of Europe. Churchill also proposed the independence of Britain from European coalitions (“Winston Churchill.”
