ROMEO AND JULIET William Shakespeare’s story of Romeo and Juliet is aged but real life stories with the same story line keep popping up in the news years later. Couples are sacrificing their lives for each other’s love. Others kill themselves for pointless reasons. Shakespeare’s version of Romeo and Juliet starts with a Prologue which reveals the plot of the story in the line “from forth the fatal loins of these two foes, a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life';. The prologue explains how two ill fated lovers die because of a long bitter feud between their families. After the prologue the scene is set on a street in Verona where members from the two families, the Montagues and the Capulets, have a fight and are warned that the next fight will result in punishment by death by Prince Escalus. Romeo enters the story with his cousin Benvolio and they talk about Romeo being in love with Rosaline. Mean while, at the Capulet home, Paris asks approval to marry Juliet. The Capulets then arranged a party for Paris and Juliet to meet. While on the street, Romeo and Benvolio are approached by a Capulet servant who invites them to the Capulet party. Romeo agrees to go because he knows that Rosaline will be there. Before Romeo goes to the party he has a dream that something bad will happen if he goes; Benvolio tells him that dreams are meaningless and they leave. When Romeo and his friends arrive they are discovered by Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, Who wants to kill them but is stopped by Juliet’s father. During the course of the party Romeo and Juliet meet and instantly fall in love. Romeo no longer loves Rosaline and is totally focused on Juliet. At the end of the party Romeo hides in Juliet’s orchard and overhears her talking about him. He then tells her he loves her and they make wedding plans that same night. Romeo then goes to Friar Laurence to make final arrangements. Friar Laurence agrees to perform the wedding ceremony hopping that the feud between the two families would end. Tybalt sent a message to Mercutio and Benvolio asking Romeo for a challenge. Romeo and Juliet get married on a Monday evening in Friar Laurence’s cell. Romeo then leaves to meet his friends. He finds out that Mercutio is killed by Tybalt and goes after Tybalt to return the favor and kills him. Romeo is caught by the Prince and is banished from Verona. Juliet later finds our everything that happened and becomes suicidal.
