My principal has decided that students must do an extracurricular activity after school. Extracurricular activities are activities outside of school that kids choose to do. Typically these are activities that kids do to have fun. The principal of my school said that we are required to do an extracurricular activity after school. This requirement has an agreement and a disagreement side. Many parents and teachers agree with this side but there are other parents, students, and teachers who disagree. I am choosing to disagree because there are many reasons why there should be no extracurricular activity.
The first reason why I chose to disagree is because the students would struggle with this requirement for many different reasons. One struggle is that most students already have after school activities. Being a student myself I know this struggle because I go to gymnastics four days out of the five days of the school week. The parents would be greatly impacted because they might have little ones that the older ones would normally have to watch and now if the older one has to do another activity after school than the younger kid has no one to watch them. Another reason having an extracurricular activity for student would effect the parents if their kid not having transportation. These kids not having transportation would mean they would not be able to participate or have someone else take their kid. The last reason this would impact the parent is that this could give them more stress. This would give them more stress because not knowing if their kid has a ride or having their younger kid not have someone to watch
My first reason is schools should not get rid of sports because private and club sports are too expensive for most families. After reading " The Case Against High School Sports" by Amanda Ripley started to make me think. There were many strong points about how the priorities of the sports are beginning to be more important to students than their education. Another great point was that the financing and budgeting is unfairly distributed throughout school districts and is spent more on athletics and clubs and not enough on classes. And I Believe that schools should put certain restrictions on the spending and promoting or in school sports and clubs because of the major drop in national and world comparisons.
The authors found that there was little to no evidence that children were truly being over scheduled. According to their research, “American youth average about 5 hours/week participating in organized activities. At any given time, roughly 40% of young people in the US do not participate in organized activities and those who do typically spend less than 10 hours/week participating” (Mahoney, Harris, Eccles). The quote above exposes the reality of the situation. Children today are not being bothered by these hefty schedules. The times have changed from the days when the average American child “lays bored on the ground staring at the sky.” The children of today are showing more interest in becoming involved. It may be the parents, who pick up the summer activities pamphlets, but it is the children that ultimately decide whether or not to go; children who desire the enjoyment and fulfillment of extracurricular activities,
Therefore, there is a bigger benefit to joining extra curricular activities (especially that there is time and assistance in academics for those who may need it and not receive it at home) and enjoining time into learning new things and exploring the world and it’s opportunities rather than going home after school and needing extra help with homework and not having someone to assist you, or even being bored and tired of playing video games and sleeping all
I believe that in middle school, it is a necessity for kids to be involved in extracurricular sports to learn knew skills that they can apply on and off the field. Due to budget cuts, more and more schools have had to cut extracurricular sports. I know that I want sports to come back and so do many kids in middle school. Sports will benefit your health and many other aspects that help you become successful.
For decades, students have been in school sports; however, they are experiencing a drop in their grades as well. After school activities can cost districts’ a great deal of money and they interfere with students’ time to study. Therefore, school sports shouldn’t be allowed, to save districts’ thousands of dollars a year, help students score better academically, and America will not lag behind other countries in academics.
For the reasons above, I believe that there should be High School Sports. I believe there should be High School Sports because, it will improve kids academics, also it will keep the kids out of trouble, and finally the coaches will be good instructor and they will make friends from meeting the new athletes. There are assortments of means through which participation in extracurricular activities may decrease the probability of problematic youthful behavior such as involvement in violence. For instance, school extracurricular activities provide organized and constructive environments where youth are supervised by adults and have less time available for indulging in unstructured and unsupervised environments (Jiang & Peterson, 2012). We as parents should encourage our children to participate in after school activities. These activities teach several skills that will help them to become productive citizens in the community. I don’t agree with over loading your child with several activities but being involved in at least one activity will be a very good decision.
Some schools force students to participate in organized school sports. However, I believe that schools should not make this a requirement. Some students may have medical conditions, family situations that don't allow them to participate in organized school sports, or they simply may not have the time.

Most parents believe that participation in extracurricular activities affects a child in a lot of good ways. My parents were no exception. After school, I was always being driven from piano to basketball to swimming and so on. At the time, I thought I was the world's busiest kid. But after all these years, I can easily see that I have gained some really important benefits from those activities. Playing the piano is probably the greatest benefit.

Porter, the author of the text, Intertextuality and the Discourse Community, says that intertextuality is “the principle that all writing and speech—indeed, all signs—arise from a single network: what Vygotsky called “the web of meaning” (Porter 396). The “single network” that connects all of these ideas actually has many smaller aspects that create the buildup of this concept. Intertextuality can be considered knowledge from previously read texts, personal experience, or the less obvious form, extra-disciplinary activities. In my opinion, extra-disciplinary activities can be a very important type of intertextuality that is looked over a majority of the time.

Childhood is a very important time in our lives, a time when we develop many vital skills that follow us into adulthood. After a few years when you have graduated high school and started life, you're going to look back and think, what have I accomplished so far? Extracurricular activities can be very beneficial for students now, and those in the future as well. They can allow you to feel like you have accomplished something while in school. Extracurricular activities are important because they can benefit a student through personal, educational, and even social means. It is a great idea to get more students involved in extracurricular activities and parents should begin to give their kids a little push to get them more involved.
