Tobacco use is a debate worldwide and everyone has their own opinions about the issue. This is such a controversial issue because of the many different health risks, weather it is beneficial or not, the harmful aspect, and its importance of an individual’s freedom. Tobacco has no general advantages towards someone’s health, as it destroys the lungs and can cause cancer anywhere in the body from all the carcinogens. In my opinion the production and sale of tobacco should be banned in the United States.
Tobacco is a very harmful substance and some people cannot wrap their mind around that. Many do not think about or mind to put all the toxins in their body cigarettes contain and destroy their lungs with every puff. The health risks out way most …show more content…

Some would say their freedom is being taken away, however the government would be bettering the population and it would only help to better everyone. Tobacco education would be one of the most important aspects to make to ban of tobacco pass through government. The citizens need to have knowledge about why it is being taken away and how to get help to stop the addiction to fully the harmfulness (“All Things”, 2002). On the other side however, ever individual has their right of freedom. No one in my immediate family smokes, but my dad and fiancé both chew tobacco so I see this from a different perspective. My dad, age 41, and my fiancé, age 21, have both got a sore on their gum from chewing. Coming from a nursing stand point I try to tell them cancer of the mouth or esophagus is likely to happen and I do not want to see this happen to any of my love ones. If tobacco would be banned then both my dad and fiancé would have to quit chewing and their risk for cancer would decrease. Statistics show men are more likely to smoke or use tobacco, which in the end will cause more cases of cancer in these men since there are more smoking (Hirschfelder, 2010) There is a downfall with my dad and fiancé because both of them have got addicted to the nicotine, so if they were to have to quit there moods would be all over the place. When both of them chew it calms them down so at the same point I do not like them chewing I do not say a lot because if they do not chew they are in bad moods. So looking at both sides it is not good to use tobacco, however once someone uses it awhile they need it for their daily lives. Here again I do think it is a right of freedom but at some point there has to be a law to help the citizens of the country be able to become
