In the article “America the Promised Land,” Oskar, argues that even though America is the land where a person will be free to work out his/her destiny as he/she chooses, but people still lose their cultural identity. In addition, Oskar states, “The consumerist society flashes us with announcements everywhere, telling us to be somebody other than ourselves. We end up believing we need to adopt those false appearances to be accepted and to finally feel as if we belong.” There are a lot of people who agree with Oskar, and they believe that people do lose their cultural identity in America because they experienced these situations, but some people totally disagree with Oskar, and they do not believe that people lose their identity. Nowadays, people want to do whatever they see on the TV shows and movies, and they want to look as same as those celebrities. People believe that if they wear their traditional clothes, other people might think that they are conservative. For instance, back in days, people used to wear their traditional clothes, but now youngsters like to dress up like star wars, batman, and other Disney characters. People used to listen to their traditional music, but now they listen to the English music. Now, people believe that if they dress up in American ways, they look more modern and liberal. For example, my five years old niece likes watching PAW patrol, and she wants to get the same clothes and stuff like PAW patrol characters. I believe that freedom of choice, race discrimination, and modernity are the three main reasons for people to lose their cultural. People do not care about their traditional costumes like the caste system, people are facing racial discrimination in schools and workplaces.
