The man best remembered by leading Great Britain through the obstacles posed by a worn torn Europe. Winston Churchill, has made a lasting mark on history. So lasting, in fact, that he is regarded as one of the greatest leaders and statesmen of the 20th century. Yet, Winston Churchill was an unlikely hero. He was a gambler and a smoker. He failed primary school, his only saving grace being his acceptance into, Sandhurst, which he had applied to nearly three times. He had been a member of parliament for over 40 years; in that time developing the reputation of being indecisive, having twice switched political parties; an action known to kill anyone’s political career. That being said, he was an unlikely hero, but a great one. These, what are commonly perceived as “shortcomings”, set Churchill apart from the hundreds of prime minister's seen by the people of Great Britain. And ultimately, traits like his compassion, determination, and his history with the military, are all the reasons why Churchill became the man he is known as today. …show more content…
