In Uncle Tom’s cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe demonstrated how corrupt the world can truly be. This book has shown its impact in America’s history through helping abolish slavery. “Slavery can broadly be described as the ownership, buying and selling of human beings for the purpose of forced and unpaid labor”. It has a huge impact on this world as it separates families, injures people, and sometimes even kills people. Sadly enough, slavery has been an ongoing issue for centuries and may never end. Although it still goes on today it is not nearly as bad as it used to be before the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin helped to abolish it. While some people treated their slaves with love and respect, others treated them very poorly. In Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Simon Legree abused his slaves terribly and Tom died because of it. This mistreatment led to the guilt of slave owners. Slave owners began feeling guilty for mistreating honest, guilt-free people. They realized that the slaves were just like them in many ways and had many similar needs and feelings. “Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves; and under a just God, can no long retain it.” As a result of the guilt that these people felt, the war finally began to abolish slavery.
