You know how people kick and hit machines if they don’t work right because they say its there property imagine that happening to slaves because that is what they did to slaves. Slaves were treated like property in the southern states of America around the time of the Civil War in the 1860s. Back in the 1860s slaves were being taken from their home countries in Africa to be brought to the United States to be treated like property to do the work we should have divided amongst are selves. To begin with, slaves that were brought to the United States had two different outcomes both good and bad. In the south it was really bad for slaves. According to Snyder when slaves came to the United States and they didn’t want to be here they would starve themselves and they would make there owners pry there mouth open with a special tool. Another thing slaves did if they didn’t want to be captured they would kill themselves shortly after they were caught. During the Civil War, African Americans even thought, they were free there was racist assumptions about blacks fighting in a white mans fight. If this would have continued through the Civil War free slaves would have not been armed and the Union would have had a slim chance of success on beating the Confederacy in the Civil War.(Grant) With both the north and the south having differences they do have similarity's on how African Americans were treated during the Civil War. Slaves and free slaves fought for both sides for many reasons of freedom and how they were being treated. Also, once they fought the president sought that they fought they were awarded the medal of honor. In conclusion, African Americans were treated differently and the same during the Civil War.
