Why Odysseus Is a Good Leader Lauryn Hall 2A Odysseus is a good leader because he is clever, brave, and he cares about the men whom he leads. When his men are trapped in Polyphemus's cave, Odysseus tells the Cyclops that his name is "Nobody"; that night, he gets the monster really drunk and then the crew blinds the monster when he's passed out. Then, when the other Cyclopes rush to his aid, he calls to them that Nobody is hurting him. When some of his men eat the lotus fruit and no longer wish to return home, Odysseus refuses to leave the island without them. He goes to shore, finds them, and makes them to return to the ship, physically forcing them. He knows in their hearts that they want to return to their families in Ithaca as much as he does, and so he refuses to listen to their protests that they want to remain where they are. …show more content…

He doesn't tell his men about the danger, and so he could go down below and protect himself without them even realizing. But he takes his chances, throwing in his lot with the rest of his crew. As much as I don’t like to admit , Odysseus has a lot of bad qualities that could change my opinion on him being a good leader, for example · He shouldn't have taken his 'twelve best men', as it was these he was placing in the most danger and had a higher chance of losing if things went wrong, which he says he knew would happen: 'I had an instant foreboding that we were going to find ourselves face to face with some barbarous being of colossal strength and ferocity'.
