In high school, I was a part of a variety of extra-curricular activities, whether it be sports, clubs, or tutoring. I also have experienced four different jobs while in high school and an internship. As a result of having that much experience, it makes it easy to select three important activities that I really enjoyed and felt great about doing. Obtaining a job at my high school is one of them, along with experiencing an internship at a local law firm, and participating in a bucket brigade which helped out a veteran in need.
Many people would not think receiving a job at their own school is anything worth talking about, but it is an honor to have this opportunity. I work in the technology department and I remain the only student that works up there. The selection process requires recommendations from teachers during the student’s junior year; from there, six students train over the summer and intern throughout the school year. Then, after junior year is over, one student works with the department through the cooperative education program. This opportunity means a lot to me due to the fact that I worked hard to be the one senior student chosen, as well as it being a great job. The Madison County Bar Association assigned selected individuals to a participating law firm in their area. This was a six-week internship where I worked at Unsell Law Firm in Wood River, Illinois. This was by far the best, and most meaningful extra-curricular activity. Being a lawyer has always been a goal of mine, and this internship helped present some insight into the law field. That being said, I am so grateful for the opportunity to be able to sit in on court cases and even research the cases myself.
