There are few reasons why I want to go back to school. My main focus is finishing what I started. I think that it will give me self improvment and a good social enviornment. With a degree so many oppertunities can open up for me. I am really looking foward to starting the semester at St Joseph. It feels great to be going back and a new begining for me. When I graduated high scool I really didn't know what career to choose. After graduation I attended Nassau Community College for liberal arts. Big mistake going there for me. I felt lost and out of place there. The classes were large and intimidating. There was no passion for what I was studying. I felt forced into college after high school with no direction. Less than a month into the first semester I dropped out, then our family moved to Port Jefferson. My mother told me if I wasn't going to work then I have to go to school. This time would be fifferent because I had a better idea of what program would intrest me more. We found Briarcliffe in Patchauge. I signed up for graphic design. I thought since I love video games it would be perfect for me. The school was much better for me. Smaller classes …show more content…
and more personal help from teachers really helped. I started to get discouraged when i'd see other students complete work faster and better than me. At the time I was also morbidly obese and weighed over 500lbs. Everything was a struggle for me including walking anywhere. It was time for a serious change. I withdrew from my classes and had surgery to help me loose weight. It really saved my life along with hard work to loose it. I went back to class and still didn't feel right. After all that time I still felt lost as to what I wanted to do. Turns out that I have more passion with the technical side of computers rather than design. For a hobby I would mod game systems to play older games. It's very fun and I still mess around on my spare time with computers. Finding a good career in what you love without a proper degree is impossible. Now I have a clear vision of what field intrests me. St Joseph has the program that i'm looking for so i'd like to attend. This time I feel more mature and ready. Even though I felt lost at times I still always wanted to go to school eventually. We are very happy so far from all the people that help us there it seems promising. When I lost my weight I tried my hardest and gave it 100%. This will be the same for me to finish my school because deep down inside, I want to finish. I want to be proud of myself with going back to school and finishing. Another reason I want to go back is self improvement. I feel that school can not only make me smarter, but a better person as well. I need to be on a schedule with goals in mind. Im a very routine person and get used to everything easy. Right now i'm not working full time and feel very empty. I look at old friends and family and see how accomplished everyone is. I look at myself and think I want to feel that way also. I want to be proud of something that will fulfill my life. With my new mindset going back to school is prefect for me. I feel like there's nothing that will hold me back from acheiving my goals. With my confidence and willing to work hard, I will be getting the self improvent I need. Being around a good social enviornment is very important.
It can influence who we are. Right now my close friends aren't the best for me. I seperated myself from them because I want to be in a better place. They actually tell me going back to school is a waste of time. I dont have too many friends and prefer to stay home than go out. Attending St Joseph with a better head on my shoulders is perfect for me. There I will meet people that are in the same boat as I am. Everyone is on the same page. It's going to be different this time becuse now i'm not thinking competition with anyone. If i'm having trouble with my work, now I feel confident to ask fellow students for help. There maybe I will join other activities that intrest me. Great oppertuity to get out and make new friends that will help me rather than bring me
down. In conclusion those are the main reasons why I want to go back to school. There is nothing to hold back my full potential. I feel that i'm more focused and ready that ever before. I know what programs intrest me in my heart so that I can give it my all. A new begining awaits me and a bright future. It's never too late to finish what you start. I know that with hard work I will succeed
The decision to enroll in graduate school came after considerable time and soul searching. While contemplating the decision to return to school I thought about life, school and work. I realized that my experience in these areas have prepared me for the challenge and I am going to succeed.
I decided at that moment that I would return to school and graduate with my bachelor?s degree. I made a promise to myself that I would finish my education. If I complete my education, I would make my parents proud of me. Plus, I want to be the first person on either side of my family to attend graduate school. Adults return to college primarily because they desire a higher paying career or a professional job. This could be a registered nurse, an elementary school teacher, a policeman or an attorney. It could also be an accountant, a journalist, a librarian, an interior decorator or a beautician (Smith, 2001).
Elementary School teacher, a professional educator for grades k-5, is a career I wish to pursue because I want to teach children the building blocks of education, love the energy and excitement that younger children give off, and want to be able to help children with special challenges. I have wanted to be an elementary school teacher for about three years now, I knew I wanted to pursue this occupation because there are many benefits to being an educator, and have always worked with children well. Some challenges are I will have to get a bachelor 's degree and have to complete a state licensing exam (“preparation 1”)
I went back to school with the simple goal of getting my degree and moving ahead in my career. School, education and obtaining my degree were always important to me, since my profession requires a bachelor degree to qualify for national certification, it was a better excuses than any to finally go to college and get the degree I had always wanted. As an adult student I put a lot of pressure on myself to do everything to the best of my ability, to keep the bar high and to go above and beyond what I even expected of myself; many times over extending my self and doing too much.
Goyne. Session1.Journal I want to go back to school to finish my Elementary education degree to become a teacher and work with Special Needs Students. I know what it is like for some of the special needs students because I used to be one myself. I have always loved school and it was hard because I did not learn the same way as my classmates. I was always behind and I would ask help from the teacher but they would tell me that they were to busy and come back after school for help.
The life I have had so far has taught me a lot about academic and life skills; from when I was about six to the age I am now. I am always learning and happy to learn new things. I might not know what I want right now, but I do know that I want something for my life; I want to go to college, so I could make the future I see happen. As you 're reading this you 're probably asking yourself why? Why does going and graduating college mean so much to her? What makes her different from all the others? Well, to answer all those questions you would have to continue reading as I explain some of the moments in my life, in which they brought me to the conclusion that I have to go to college.
A high school diploma is practically just a piece of paper anymore. You must have a college degree in order to get a well-paying job. Sure you can go into the labor force right out of high school, but you may only be making $40,000 a year. That much money may sound like a lot, but in reality it is not. People with a college degree tend to make twice that amount, if not three or four times that amount of money a year.
There was the option to go for an OTA (Occupational Therapy Assistant) at a Community College. I set my mind and decided I would work towards an OTA. Though I thought I was finally set and finally found my career path, life reminded me I was now out of High School and responsible for contributing to some of my family's financial obligations. Going to College was my choice, it was never something my parents ever talked to me about or mentioned. I come from a family who has migrated from South America and their only goal was to work long hours in a manufacturing job to make a living.
“A good education is a foundation for a better future.” ~ Elizabeth Warren. The reasoning behind why I want to go to college is to better my future. I am considered one of the first generation in my family to go to college, putting a lot of meaning behind why I believe I should go on to a different path. From a very young age I have always held high expectations of myself, even of the numerous changes in careers I had obtained an interest in. I have always envisioned myself going to college because I certainly value education. I believe that the more education I receive, the more valuable I am to this generation of the work force. Not only does my passion of learning hold place in the reasoning behind why I want to go to college, but because of my role models growing up. My parents both encourage me on a daily basis to go to college, and have encouraged my initiative to seek more in life. My father once explained that he once had this opportunity to receive a free ride to college but decided to stay home and start a family. He of course never looked back or regretted his decision because if not I wouldn 't be here today, but he encouraged me to take on these amazing offers and
The college experience may differ for many different people, the reasons that people go to college will differ from person to person. One of my reasons for going back to college is to accomplish my goal. All my life I’ve wanted to go to college and eventually receive a veterinary license. After completing high school I started college and after three years I dropped out to become a wife and mother. For many years I felt that I would not be able to go back to school and complete my life long goal for many different reasons: money and time were the two main problems that I had to face if I wanted to go back to college. After many years I decided that I would never have more money or more time, so it was time for me to jus...
Going back to school at 30 is not the same as going back to school at 20, especially when you’re a single parent with an established career. Returning to school never left my mind throughout the years, I received my associates seven years ago and between then and now a lot had changed. So many questions I asked myself; do I have the time, who can help watch my daughter, can I juggle another load, etc. I answered every one of my questions; unfortunately I gave myself excuses instead. The decision going back to school was overwhelming because it was taking up another full time job; making it a priority and possibly putting in overtime to study and do homework.
College is a very important thing. If you go to college you will most likely get better pay in your career. Also, with a college degree, you have more opportunities. I believe that everyone should go to college. If you don’t go to college and just go into some job and that fails then you have no backup plan. A college graduate is more likely to be offered employment than another who didn’t attend college, if you have a college degree you will make more money in your lifetime than someone who doesn’t have a degree, if you are considering having children having a college degree is very beneficial to them, you have a higher chance of having better health yourself, college is very beneficial, and if you go to college you will have a better social
In high school my ideal career seemed to change from day-to-day. I tried working at a fast food restaurant, and ice cream parlor, a day care, but none of these led to any career decisions. I wanted to join the military so I took the ASVAB but I was not confident enough in my ability to make it through basic training so I gave up the idea. I wanted to be an architect so I applied for admission to the CAD program at ITT Technical Institute and was accepted. I was scheduled to start classes on June 12, 1989, but deep down what I truly wanted was to a wife and mother and the idea of getting out of Rantoul, Illinois did not hurt either. My unspoken desire came to the fore when I met my future husband in January of 1989. We were married on June 10, 1989, four days after my high school graduation and two days before I w...
Schools can give responsibility to students but never without a cost. Students should have to chance to prove their worth to schools and show how responsible they can be as adults. When students go to college classes as high schoolers they sometimes tend to have more free time during those times. If a child has enough responsibility to take those classes they should have enough to leave school and be trusted to come back to school after their free time is over. Although leaving school early is not something that is smiled upon it should be because some students are ahead and can work their schedule to allow extra time because of hard work in early years.
Those who value both their family and friendship relationships enjoy greater health and higher happiness. While no one should solely rely on friendships, these do have an impact on a person's well-being. This gives a better understanding and allows a person to thrive both physically and mentally. Just as with family relationships, having good friends can enhance the ability to cope with stress and learn how to grow as a person. College is a time for change. For most people it is a time when they find their way and become more independent. They will seek out new things, make mistakes, and learn how to manage time and energy. When life becomes stressful it will cause the need to rely on friends that are going through the same thing. When meeting back up with old friends, they may seem more mature or completely different. The way college changes friendships will be different for everyone. No two friendships are alike, so separation of going to college will affect everyone differently. Some friends will stay close so there will not be many changes and they will probably still text every day. While others will drift apart and might not even talk at all. College students will make new friends, maybe a new roommate, people in their classes, or in the cafe. There are a lot of opportunities to meet new people. Even with old friends in college, those friendships might change and meeting new people will cause one to grow
