Do you know anyone in your family, a friend or even a person at school with learning disabilities? What if I told you, the assistance the disabled needs in order to learn was being reduced? Around the country budget cuts have been made and they are impacting the special needs student population in a negative way. However, some may argue that the government should not give back the money that was taken away by the budget cuts and the money should be used for other education programs. I care because I have a godson who has autism. His name is Zan Torres, and he is three years old. Autism is a mental condition; autism is difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people. For example, Zan has a communicating skills of a one-year-old, and he is three years old. Zan was enrolled in an early development program for children with special needs. Within seven months, Zan went to two different schools because the special education program got cut from previous school. Class sizes are getting bigger and bigger which is a problem, due to the fact there is only one teacher and one assistant per class. With classes getting bigger the student doesn't get the full one on one attention the student needs. I saw from moving to a different school Zan attitude changed from loving school to crying every morning when he was dropped off. It was not because the teachers were cruel to Zan, it was for the reason that he was not close to them like he was to his other teachers. Children with this type of learning disability have a hard time getting comfortable with new people and its time to create a bond with them. I have some many new questions I want to know the answers to. How is the CPS conducting how much of the special education funding is being cut -is there a formula? What factors play a part on which school are reward back money and which aren’t? What are the regulations of the federal and state, that governs special education funding? Given the information that was represented, I vigorously believe the CPS should appoint all the money or some that was taken away and put back in the special needs education program. Theses student does not deserve to be treated as if their education does not matter. How rancorous can you be to take away something that will help these students achieve in life! Therefore, the CPS should re-evaluate what they have done, and think behalf of the student's education instead of cutting the program budget off to save money. These amazing students are the future, just like an ordinary student out here in Chicago. We all heard that education is key, Chicago should live by this saying and make these students feel like they could do
