Being handed a piece of paper with the destination unknown would be quite the dilemma in most people’s minds. We often forget in our daily lives that modern society has a general set of actions that we often do not acknowledge. Our minds normally adapt to these norms, allowing them to be a part of our everyday lives. My mind often wonders if I were to ever live in a world without norms. Imagining, absence of the precedent for the behavior among humans that makes us “normal” being nonexistent. Saying “thank you” or holding the door open for someone wouldn’t be expected of one another. The underlying ethics that humanity shares would be thought of as fictional. Integrating myself into a community where its foundation consisted of routine and norms allowed me to always question what causes us to have them. Breaking the norms was unheard of in my community. Although it would inevitably be a world of perplexity and bewilderment, society would be incomparable to what it is now. I would implore into a world where rules were vacant from our minds. Exploring the norms that society has such as driving on the right side of the road. Having regular drivers driving on the wrong side, not following the laws of the road, would lead to utter chaos. I would experience how my life at home would be. If I came home after curfew or if I asked my parents for some extra money, with their being no implications. It wouldn’t be typical to stereotype one another as our brain does. There are some aspects of my life, leading me to believe that some norms being forgotten would be beneficial to society.
