The carthage was a former colony of tyre and now the capital city of the northern coast of African, was found by queen Dido who was driven from tyre with some band fugitives, she brought much land from the prince of African and formed the city Carthage.
The Carthage city almost became equal to Rome in the following ways, the Carthage power was based on the trade and commercial supremacy. She had control the trading of northern African alone with many of Greek cities of sicily. Carthage was a good trader (merchant) of the Mediterranean, and had grown wealth and strong by buying an selling product of the east and west. The king Syracuse attacks the Campanian mercenaries and sieges their city and this city decided to call the Rome for help and because of their delay in response there call the Carthage, and there respond. When Rome finally came and see Carthage has been call the commander was not pleased and he call the commander of the Carthage for a friendly conference where he was siege and force to give up the Island for his freedom. And he did give up the Island. Thereafter the king Syracuse alliance with Carthage and fight the Rome and mercenaries, but the Rome army defeated them. The king seeing the superiority of Rome formed an alliance with Rome against the Carthage to drive them out of the Island and there conquered the Carthaginians town after town and finally the capture the city of Agrigentum for seven months in 262
