Chivalry is needed in today's society. Society today lacks respect, justice, and honor. I believe that we as a people need to work together to bring back these important pillars of our foundation. Our culture has changed so much in the last century or so, that it is hard to believe that we are a nation built on respect, justice, and honor. Respect shows the value of others. It is a sense of worth or value to another person. It is often nowadays that people show no value to their fellow man. Respect is a huge part of common decency. Respect can help foster a more peaceful environment. If society would practice a little more respect there would be less wars and more peace. Everyone owes everyone at least a basic amount of respect. Justice in today's society does not occur as much as we think. Everyday, people all around the world, are convicted of crimes they did not commit. Some as simple as shoplifting, others as terrible as murder. We must accept that justice may not always win. Although this is the case we can help justice become more common. Justice should not be an afterthought it should prevail within all of us. Honor is the value of a person not only in his or her eyes but also the eyes of his or her society. In the 17-19th century men would duel on “fields of honor”. In today's society men don’t even come close to doing that. The closest we get is getting into a fist fight that does not even do that much damage to each other. Herbert Hoover once said “When there is a lack of honor in the government the morals of the whole people are poisoned.” If we don’t have an honorable government, then the people following that government are going to learn the ways of that government and will lose their honor.
