Over the years obesity rates have risen to alarming rates. For decades health professionals have treated the symptoms with medications and procedures but no one has addressed why our country is in the middle of an obesity epidemic. In the past, I have viewed obese people as lazy more recently I have even come to believe that are genetics or thyroid issues have been to blame. However, if we could find the source of the problem we could end obesity. The goal of this essay is to determine who is to blame for the obesity in America, and by looking at food companies marketing, overindulging, and additives we will discover the root problem of obesity. Corporations only survive through profits. Therefore, they tend to market foods to an impressionable audience; children. By adulthood most people are set in their ways, they have decided what types of food they enjoy and typically stay within the realm. However, at young age children can suggest to parents what snacks they want, in an effort to make their children happy most parents purchase the items. While corporations are preying on our children overall it is the parents that are allowing children to eat the food. …show more content…

Whenever the funds were available the cupboards would be full of chips, soda, and cookies. These are all things that make children smile and happy and who would wish against that. However, as a caregiver, it is the parent’s job to give children the best possible future and the greatest thing that a person can receive is a clean bill of health. Because obesity has negative effects over time it is difficult for parents to see the damage they are doing to their children, especially with them smiling while eating cookies and milk. Although we can understand the negative effects of eating junk food, even seemingly healthy food could have added to the obesity epidemic that we are facing
