What is most responsible for Romeo And Juliets death?
Fate is most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death because of the way plans folded out. As Friar Lawrence is marrying Romeo and Juliet he states “ In one respect I’ll thy assistant be, for this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households rancor to Pure Love.”(2.3.90-93), Friar Lawrence is saying that he believes marrying Romeo and Juliet will turn their families hatred for each other into love for each other, this ends up not being true because Juliet’s parents wanted her to marry Paris but they had no knowledge of her marriage to Romeo. When Friar John is giving Friar Lawrence bad news he states “Suspecting that we both were in a house where the infectious pestilence did reign, sealed up the doors and would not let us forth.” (5.2.9-11) Friar John is saying that when he went to deliver the letter to Romeo he helped out some sick people, but as he was helping them health control suspected him of having the black plague, so they quarantined him not allowing him to deliver the letter to Romeo. This shows untimeliness of important situations because something that was uncontrollable occurred while delivering an important letter, causing the letter to not go through. After Friar Lawrence enters Juliet's tomb and discovers Paris and Romeo dead he states “A greater power than we can contradict Hath thwarted our intents” (5.3.153-154) Friar Lawrence is saying that a higher power has messed up his intentions. The word “greater power” connotes fate because fate holds all authority as it is a uncontrollable power. “Thwarted our intents” means to mess up your intentions. This shows the untimeliness of situations because out of all moments for a situation to be messed up it happened during a matter of life and death.
