The Death of Romeo and Juliet and Who is to Blame

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, in which a young boy and girl fall in love and commit suicide. They come from 2 different families which have a deadly feud against one another. Romeo goes to a masked ball at the Capulet's household where he falls in love with Juliet. He then proposes to her after the party in secret at Juliet's balcony. Romeo then arranges a secret weeding with Friar Lawrence and Juliet tells the Nurse. They are then married by Friar Lawrence. On that same morning Mercutio is killed by Tybalt, Romeo the retaliates by killing Tybalt which gets him banished from Verona. Then Juliet's parents arrange a marriage for

Juliet's farther never took to the time to understand his daughter and he presumed that she'd always respect whatever he had to say. When Juliet did not accept her father's idea for her to marry Paris, he became very angry and said, "Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch! I tell thee what, get thee to church o'Thusday, Or never after look me in the face." This resulted in Juliet having to take desperate measures to avoid marrying Paris.

Friar Lawrence's good intentions of marrying Romeo and Juliet to create peace with the two families is also to blame for the tragedy. The secret marriage does not help the feud at all it just results in the Friar having to make some risky decisions about the fate of Romeo and Juliet. His plan for Juliet to take the poison and the letters to be sent to Romeo ends up being fatal. If the Friar had not given Juliet the potion then Romeo would never had come back to Verona to kill himself.

Friar Lawrence's actions at the end of the play are partly to blame for the death of Juliet. He walks into the tomb and finds Juliet

So it is likely that Shakespeare meant for fate to be the cause of Romeo and Juliet's death.

I think that the family feud is the main cause for the death of Romeo and Juliet. If the families were not so hateful towards each other Romeo and Juliet would not have kept there love for each other a secret, and they would have no need for committing suicide. This also backs up the point that fate could be to blame for their deaths. It think it was fate that they came from two families that hated each other, the likeliness of two lovers coming from families which have a deadly feud against one another is very low, so I think it must be fate.

I also think that Friar Lawrence is largely responsible for the deaths, as his plan to use love to conquer hate went badly wrong. Friar Lawrence's good intention to make peace by using love to conquer hate also shows that the feud was the most responsible for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. If the feud had not existed then there would've been no need for Friar to marry Romeo and Juliet in secret and
