Heroes live all around and show kindness in many different ways. In the historical fiction novel, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, written by Mildred D. Taylor there are several people who portray heroism. There are several heroes in Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, which demonstrate heroic attributes. A hero is outstanding to that of an ordinary individual, acting with loyalty, trustworthiness, and confidence. In this novel, Stacey, Mr. Morrison, and Uncle Hammer possess these leadership qualities. Stacey, is a kind older brother, who shows his unending strength when his troubled friend asks for help. Morrison is another heroic character in the novel Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry. He is a strong and confident acquaintance of Papa's, who came to live with the Logan family after losing his job on the railroad. Honestly admitting to being fired for a fight with some men on the railroad, Mr. Morrison eagerly accepts the position of hired hand on the Logan farm. Papa explains to the family why Mr. Morrison is at their house by stating, "when I asked he wanted to work here, he said he would" (Taylor 37). Mr. Morrison is hardworking because he never gives up and continues to stay strong after losing his job. Mr. Morrison is straightforward with Mama, describing the need to stand his ground, which led to him being fired from his paying job. Working for little money, food and shelter, no job was beneath Mr. Morrison, who began to form a strong bond with the members of the Logan family. The connection the family had with Mr. Morrison is tested when Stacey explains, "After them men shot Papa, they come down trying to get Mr. Morrison, but he was too fast... Mr. Morrison picked up one of them like he wasn't nothing ... and fling him down on the ground so hard it must've broke his back" (Taylor 215). During the Wallace ambush, Mr. Morrison stays loyal to Papa and Stacey. Mr. Morrison is loyal, because after seeing what happened to Papa, he had the opportunity to run for his own safety.
