In “The Photograph”, Enrique Amorim, writes about the tale regarding Madame Dupont, a woman who wants to show her mother that she is doing well in life. As a result, Madame Dupont decides that the best way to represent the life that her mother hoped that Madame had was by hiring a photographer to take her picture. She tells the photographer, “I want a portrait to send to my mother. It must give the impression that it was taken in a real house. My own house” (202). The wording in this quote alone, gives a sense of loneliness as she uses the word “impression”. Baseball is not just America’s pastime, it is more than that. Players are under pressure to be their best. To achieve their goals, they try out steroids. “Because of this pressure, more professional baseball players are turning to performance-enhancing drugs, specifically steroids, to aid them in their quest for greatness” (Villagomez 587). The imagery of dozens of people rushing out to help travelers like Enrique by throwing bundles to the travelers as they pass through the city is very powerful. This imagery is representative of the kindness that some people have for the travelers. Without the kindness of others, and their willingness to help, Enrique and many other travelers may not have been able to make it all the way to the United States. These generous people provide the travelers with a greater chance of success by giving the travelers food and other necessities that keeps them alive.
