Racism, When Will It End?
At some moment in life, majority of us will be faced with some form of racism. We will either be the victim of the action or the perpetrator, no one should have to encounter racism. Racism should be eliminated from society. Racism is a major issue in the world today. Many individuals are oblivious to the fact that racism still exists in our workplaces, shopping centers, and many learning institutions. The truth is that racism may not be as transparent as it was several years ago, but it also has not gone away completely. Racism is a closeted issue that many people try and conceal, but it is an issue we need to deal with in our society. While interviewing the employees at Atascocita Dental, I found that individuals who struggle with discriminating against others are because they had not been exposed to different cultural values, as well as different skin colors throughout their childhood. Jordan the dental assistant at Atascocita Dental said in his interview that, “Growing up my parents did not have friends of different races, so it was hard for me to bond with people of different racial backgrounds, as I emerged from elementary to middle school, because I didn’t understand their culture it was something I had never been exposed to”. Despite the fact, that racial discrimination is diminishing, it has been the reasoning for wars, representation of terrorism, as well as a reason for people to disrespect others. There are many people who are affected by racial discrimination while working their full-time jobs. Discrimination in the workplace can be can rooted from many differences amongst people in such as political views, skin color and religious views. To avoid racial discrimination amongst employees joining the company, there should be a mass meeting organized to show that there is a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination and when violated, there will be severe consequences. In order for the discriminatory policies to work, employers must provide staff with an outline of the antidiscrimination rules, all staff should be trained in different situations where an individual may normally be affected by in the workplace, and lastly staff should be provided with the necessary educational resources on racial discrimination. Encouraging employees to work in group settings will allow them to get comfortable with each other as well as getting to know personal facts about one another, generating a healthy, this also makes the company run smoother. Racial discrimination, has a great amount of negativity that comes with it. What can we do to help stop this completely? The fact is that we can’t control what other individuals do, we can only educate them on the struggles that many minorities face with
