When Do People Set Goals Coming Year

The great artist Michelangelo once said, “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” Each year during the last week of December and the beginning of January, many people begin to set goals they plan to reach in the coming year. Following these goals, public gyms get swarmed with new members planning to become stronger in the following days. Some people will give up within the first week, others will make it a couple of months. Nonetheless, all of these people exerted an effort towards reaching their desired goals. I agree with Michaelangelo because many people are capable of more than they attempt, one may only achieve as much as he tries, and laziness takes root from neglected goals. A common scientific saying is “An object in motion tends to stay in motion, while an object at rest tends to stay at rest.” A high school graduate, who was previously the star tennis player, makes a resolution to jog a mere quarter of a mile, two days each week. However, six months ago, his fitness obsessed tennis coach required each participant run a grueling five kilometer trek around the school grounds every day. The graduate is aware of his abilities to move above and beyond a light warm-up for a sport more like that of golfing. He is becoming lazy. Obtainable goals are being set but these goals are only setting himself up for failure in the future. If one does not set goals, or raise the bar on them, they are sure to fail. However, some may argue that there is no purpose in setting a goal that you may not ever achieve. If one believes that principle, they must also believe there is no point in taking another breath because there is no promise of living another
