It all started in 1934. Farmers plowed were little rain fell. The land was held by the prairie, and now the grass is gone. Cattle herds were destroyed. They say it was the worst storm in the history of all of mankind. It lasted for many years. Dry earth and strong winds created the Dust Bowl. Blizzards, dust, and cattle ranchers also contributed. Crops were destroyed. It was difficult for farmers to survive. 1/3 of Americans lived on farms. A lot of people were working in the field. World War 1 breaks out in Europe. Prices went up. When World War 1 ended prices went down. The drought came in three waves 1934, 1936, and 1939-40. The Great Plains is where the dust bowl started.
