Hamlet is one of the infamous plays written by William Shakespeare. The main character, Hamlet is a prince full of rage, anger, depression, combativeness, arrogance, and conspicuousness. The play begins with the sighting of the ghost of King Hamlet, Hamlet's late father. From his untimely death Hamlet slips into a deep depression. A contributing factor to his depression is the sudden re-marriage of his mother, Queen Gertrude to Claudius the brother, and killer of King Hamlet. By psychoanalyzing Hamlet it can be concluded that Hamlet was the original Norman Bates. Hamlet shows no remorse for those he has taken part in killing, he enjoys plotting Claudius's death, has an unsettling obsession with his mother, his murderous rage never seems to …show more content…

He had just found out his father had been murdered, and did not handle it well. He became very depressed, and even contemplated suicide. "To be, or not to be? That is the question- whether 'tis nobler in the kind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them,"(Shakespeare, Act 3, Scene 1, Page 3). His state only improved when he found motivation in carrying out the task of avenging his father's untimely demise. The problem here is his only motivation was to kill, and cause more pain, and suffering. He was carrying out the same action that caused him great distress. The only feasible way he could mentally prepare to kill someone, is not be here mentally. After the original plot against Claudius, Hamlet slowly showed more and more signs of insanity. It could be interpreted that he was hiding in plain sight by telling people he was pretending to be insane, but it was all a part of his plan. He gradually went further, and further off the deep end until he jumped. Through a good portion of the play you question wether Hamlet, and Ophelia are lover or rivals. The constantly tease each other, and use each other. On Hamlet's behalf there are most likely no feelings, he is merely playing her like a recreational activity. On Ophelia's part it can't be quite certain where her feelings lie. During the play Ophelia receives a love letter from Hamlet, and her brother, Laertes, urges her to be careful because he is known to not reciprocate feelings. Considering Hamlet shows many signs of a psychopath it is not out of character for him to be using women, and teasing them for laughs. The relationship between Ophelia and Hamlet becomes completely different by the end of the play. At first they seemed like lovebirds, and paralleled Romeo and Juliet. However that was not the case because we quickly learned Hamlet's true character. Toward he conclusion of the play Ophelia and Hamlet seem much more cheeky, and playful. They tease, and then they argue, and kiss, and act quite immature. The way Hamlet treats women contributes to his emotionlessness, and inability to feel anything other than a murderous
