“The scarlet stains upon the body, and especially upon the face of the victim, caused terror in those watching the afflicted” (7). The story starts off with the prince getting away to a castle with his healthy friends. They were going to throw a masque party, and all was going well until the masker showed up. Everyone was scared including the knights. As the masker made its way from the blue room to the black room, nobody moved. The prince felt like it was his job to get up and take control. He entered the black room with the Masker and that’s when everyone heard a scream, the prince was dead. Eventually, all his friends dropped dead too. The masker has now entered the green room. I feel that the author chose the green room for teenage years because green represents growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Teenage boys and girls are growing fast and time flies with them. When they enter high school, they want to fit in and they don’t want to have anybody dislike them. Teenagers change their personality and who they are so that no one dislikes them, every teenager just wants harmony and no fighting ever. “…through the purple to the green…” (13). The masker keeps moving west towards the orange room. The orange room represents young adult. Orange stands for joy, enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation. Young adults always want to have fun with their friends, so they do wild and carefree things. They like to think creative and do things that no one has thought about doing. Well, they are having fun they are also determined to find a place in the world and figure out what’s next for the future. They love to be encouraged, young adults like feeling like they are doing something right, even if it’s something little. “…through the green to the orange…” (13).
