Mary as Woman, Woman as Mother
The adjective politically correct is defined as, “conforming to a belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated” (politically correct). Political correctness is rooted in following what society, or a majority, may determine infallible. The left in our country is pushing for political correctness, however it reduces our ability to live out fulfilling relationships in union with God. One element of political correctness involves women’s rights. Men and women are equal yet different; men are masculine and women are feminine, it is not possible to get around this. She avoided sin, and since her adolescence Mary was committed to serve the Lord. Every woman is capable of living a life like Mary. She serves as a model for both female vocations: virginity and motherhood. When the Angel Gabriel speaks to Mary in the Gospel of Luke, Mary wants to keep her virginity in the process of conceiving Jesus. Gabriel assured Mary that the Holy Spirit will shroud the mystery of the conception. Mary was able to be a mother and a virgin. The Dignity and Vocation of Women states, “Virginity and motherhood coexist in her: they do not mutually exclude each other or place limits on each other. Indeed, the person of the Mother of God helps everyone - especially women - to see how these two dimensions, these two paths in the vocation of women as persons, explain and complete each other” (JP2 VI 17). Mary embraced her feminine nature and was able to find fulfillment in answering both of her vocations. Her vocations to virginity and motherhood built upon each other to increase the spiritual depth of Mary’s relationship with God. Mary did not attempt to be more masculine, instead embraced her feminine essence to develop an intimate faith
