What compassion means to me? Compassion means to show care and love. Compassion is a deep feeling of sympathy. Compassion is also a feeling of sorrow for others. Compassion is to watch out for others. This world without compassion is very cold. Compassion is what everybody wants. Compassion is what everybody needs. Every human does not show compassion. It is better if you do though. Compassion is what made this world how it is today. This world would be in a better place is everybody was compassionate.

I didn’t realize how much i was going to miss them. I didn’t realize how much i would mis their love and care. I think to myself, wow they must really miss the family. They must really miss spending Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving, Valentine's and birthdays with the family. Its hurts me when i think of how it feels being in a building with strangers, no comfortable bed and delicous food. Especially if you are going to be in their for a long time with no family or friends with you. Compassion so important. Don’t ever forget to show it.
Compassion is not a human right. You do not have to have compassion, but it is better if you do. Us humans have emotions/ feelings and feel pain. We also make mistakes. Not all of us humans show love and care to one another. Compassion is what helps this world get better.

As eighteenth century poet and artist William Blake once wrote: "Where mercy, love, and pity dwell, there God is dwelling too." The three sensations commented on by Blake are prevalent with the 2008 graphic novel Kingdom Come and 2006 book The Road, but arguably the most interesting is the Christian concept of mercy within the story. The term 'mercy' comes from the Latin word 'merces' or 'merced' which translates as 'reward,' according to an online dictionary the contemporary meaning of the term: "compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one's power; compassion, pity, or benevolence." It is my belief that through the expression of mercy, humanity cannot only better understand God, but their fellow humans as well and help achieve ulimate redemption with the divine.
“He was finally free, but there was no joy in his heart.” This evokes sadness and pity from the author over a young boy having no joy in him. Elie Wiesel uses this technique to get human feelings of attachment to form with his speech.
He uses the appeal to authority by showing that he lived through great suffering in World War Two as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp where he suffered greatly and experienced the indifference shown by the world first-hand. He then used the appeal to facts by first defining the word “indifference,” and then stating the facts of several events that took place showing the lack of immediate concern that was shown by the United States towards the prisoners when the United States discovered what the Nazis were doing. Wiesel also uses the appeal to emotion while he laces his entire speech with many different emotionally charged words. He tries to elicit a strong emotional response from the audience so as to move them towards action against indifference. His goal can still be achieved today if each person who reads his speech was to actively see the suffering that others experience and work ease it to the best of their ability. According to Bush (2009), nurses must learn forgiveness and love themselves to prevent and overcome compassion fatigue. “Nurses should treat themselves with the empathy and compassion that they give others” (Bush, 2009, p. 27). Nurses should take time to nurture themselves by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and diet. They should also continue to participate in activities that they enjoy, get plenty of rest, and have a sense of self-awareness throughout their career. Elie Wiesel shows great respect for America. He complements the soldiers, the first lady and the president. He informs us about how young he was and felt anger and rage towards the Nazis. He also notices the soldiers that saved him had great rage which translates to true compassion for one another. He gives us a great history lesson and who was indifferent especially towards how towns were miles away from the camps and did nothing about it. He impounded the heart breaking on how doing business with them until 1942 and we knew what was going on. He questions the indifference we had.
Wiesel has dedicated his life to helping others because he knows what it is like to be alone and suffering. As a great example to the people, he explains, “that every moment is a moment of grace, every hour an offering; not to share them would mean to betray them. Our lives no longer belong to us alone; they belong to all those who need us desperately” (Wiesel 13). Elie makes the audience feel guilty for not helping those that needed their help the most and for taking their freedom for granted. By making them feel guilty, he is actually pushing the audience to do more to help their community. The reader feels inspired and challenged to dedicate their life, like Wiesel, to helping the oppressed. Wiesel has an impact on his listeners by using pathos and encouraging them to never stay neutral and to never stay silent.

Compassion is a feeling of sympathy to help others. It is important that case managers have compassion because it help them to relate to their client. It shows the client that the case manager is feeling what the client is feeling. Case managers will not always have easy cases. They will have to deal with clients who are going through hard times or clients who are dealing with different situations themselves. Through experiencing or living with pain, insight, knowledge and understanding can be presented to those things that may not have been in realization in a pain free life. Because of pain, the true meaning of life, what it is like to live, and the value of oneself and others is to be within one’s control. Pain strengthens the body, mind, and the spirit. As stated in Virginia Woolf’s essay on Being Ill, the true beauty of the people and the real beauty of the earth can be seen through the eyes of those who are in pain. Also according to Woolf, pain can lead to spiritual divinity. From my understanding, the power of prayer to some people is not in belief until pain has overtaken the body of oneself or of a loved one. Pain seems to open the eyes of those who have not lived correctly.
Compassion is often misinterpreted with that of empathy and altruism. But both terms are associated to compassion. Empathy is the ability to sense and help us understand the perspective, person 's needs, and intentions of others. Thus, you place yourself in their shoes and feel what they are feeling. On the other hand, altruism is defined as acting out of concern for the well-being of others, without regard to your own self-interest. Compassion often does, of course, involve an empathic response and an altruistic behavior. Thus compassion is defined as the emotional response when recognizing suffering and involves a genuine desire to help.
I used to underestimate compassion when it comes to how special and important it actually is. But over the past few weeks in school, we have studied the Holocaust, and that has shown me the true importance of compassion. Many Jewish people couldn’t do things such as use vehicles, or go to school. Many of them had to hide so they wouldn’t be sent to concentration camps, where many of them were killed. Therefore, we carry guilt for simple actions like throwing a cigarette on the ground, we may feel guilty for a bit, but we can always change our actions and help the people around us. Compassion is the ability to be conscious of the suffering that other people may be experiencing, along with the desire to alleviate others from such suffering. Although there is debate about whether compassion involves literal action to alleviating suffering, being compassionate allows for one to understand the pain.
Everyday we wake up and prepare ourselves to face the day ahead. Some people find this simple task to be a very bothersome one, others not so much. Everyone sees life in a different light, and that’s what makes us, us.
