As we develop more of an awareness we may become concerned about what is going on around us. Therefore, we carry guilt for simple actions like throwing a cigarette on the ground, we may feel guilty for a bit, but we can always change our actions and help the people around us. Compassion is simple and uses common sense, it is humble and straightforward. Being compassionate is difficult for those who do not experience it often. I look at compassion as a hard choice, we never know who is going through a battle of hard times. We are part of a society that is not innate because we are constantly judging one another. I learned how it could help me be a compassionate parent one day, and how to raise compassionate children. I was raised as a compassionate person because of my mother, we often learn from the people around us. Society could take a lesson on how to be more compassionate to those around them. I believe compassion is significant in relationships, especially those who have been together for years and are out of the honeymoon phase also known as passion, however, this has taught me that not everyone is compassionate, but it doesn’t hurt if you are. We as a society are always assuming negative things about people even if we are compassionate. As we develop more of an awareness we become more concerned about what is going on around us and whether or not we should be judging people or not. I believe complete compassion is for the ones we are close to, our friends and family, showing compassion to strangers is a different form. We never talk about the negative that occurs with compassion, like the selfishness. We may have all been brought up to help others and feel empathic for those who are less fortunate, but in this article, I also explained why being compassionate improves the quality of our lives without making humans feel selfish. In a relationship we need to build our compassion on trust between the individual whether this be parents, children, coworkers, or stranger. I find this especially true when raising children, this teaches them to keep commitments, to not break promises, and consider other people’s feelings. Furthermore, successful relationships all have a solid foundation most likely built on friendship, both individuals have a mutual respect for and an enjoyment of each other’s company.
