Thomas Jefferson is the third president of the United States of America. Thomas Jefferson was born in Shadwell, Virginia on April 13, 1743. According to History.com, he is well known as the founder of the Declaration of Independence, a significant document in American History. Jefferson’s path towards presidency involved being governor of his home state, taking part in the Virginia legislature and the Continental Congress. Thomas Jefferson held many achievements during his life and presidential term that left a great impact on the United States of America. During the fight for American Independence from Britain, Jefferson was a strong supporter of the battle. Thomas Jefferson played a prominent role in the cause once he was elected in 1768 to the Virginia House of Burgesses (“Thomas Jefferson”). Over time Jefferson continued to contribute his time and work to the fight. On June 1776, Thomas Jefferson was chosen to write an important document that would forever be known in history as the Declaration of Independence (“Thomas Jefferson Another accomplishment that Thomas Jefferson achieved during his presidency was the reduction of the United States’ debt. Jefferson managed to reduce the national debt from $80 million to $57 million during his terms in office (“Thomas Jefferson: Domestic Affairs”). He also “reduced the size of the armed forces and government bureaucracy” (“Thomas Jefferson Biography.com). Jefferson saw cutting down the bureaucracy and armed forces as a priority since he wanted to “operate with a smaller bureaucracy” (“Thomas Jefferson: Domestic Affairs”). Jefferson also managed to remove court officers who were federalists since he wanted to eliminate european influence on the the U.S government (“Thomas Jefferson: Domestic Affairs”).
