Values are a person’s principles, their standards of behavior. It is how we determine what is important in life. Our values are acquired throughout our lifetime, since every person has a different life experience not everyone will have the same values. Throughout my life I have had many different things and people which have helped shape the values I have today. The most important value that guides all my actions and the way I present myself to the world is kindness. I believe you must always be kind to others above all else. As I was growing up my parents would always tell me “Be kind to others, you do not know what they are going through.” This was always reinforce in elementary school where my teachers would write the rules of the class on the first day of school, without fail “Be kind- to others, to ourselves, to our classroom” was always among the rules. Having such important, influential people in my life reinforce the same value at a young age made this seem like one of the most important things in the world. Whenever I was having a bad day, having a person be kind to me would always make the day just a little bit better. I always strive to do the same. When ranking my values, the three most important were: contributing to society, feeling good about myself, and world peace. …show more content…

I was however surprised that Accomplishing/ Achieving were ranked much lower since I connect both with hard work. I believe that the value of education ties in with the 5th value in the NASW Standards for the Classification of social work Practice, “willingness to transmit knowledge and skills to others” (Reamer, 2013, p. 24). By valuing education I believe that knowledge betters people’s lives, it is through knowledge that people are able further their lives. Educations is also a means to ending ignorance or people’s inaccurate
