Walt Disney had a vision, a vision in which children and parents could have fun together in one place. The more he thought and dreamt of the place, the more it came into view. It became more elaborate and inclusive the longer Disney stewed on the idea. His vision then became a reality with the purchase of land in Anaheim, California. When building started on the Magic Kingdom Walt Disney’s dream became a symbol and icon for all of American; eventually spreading abroad. Walt’s only dream was to build a place for both children and parents to be able to have fun together, and in order to do so he would have to turn to the people he wanted to build it for. Disney once said, “I could never convince the financiers that Disneyland was feasible, because dreams offer too little collateral.” So began his search for financial aid. Walt soon turned to the people for help. Using television for advertising “Walt Disney’s Disneyland” he quickly gained the support of the American people. Broadcasting the park brought the idea of Disneyland into reality for both Walt and the American people. The theme park set the yardstick for all other theme parks throughout America and the world. Disneyland takes its visitors on a magical trip from Main Street USA all the way to Sleeping Beauty’s castle. The trip is one of imagination and allows adults to be just as involved as the children. Soon Disneyland would become known as more of a market corporation and a way for America to take on the world markets. The symbol of America was suddenly brought under prejudice for being exclusive to the poor, being built and made for elites and those of money and position.
