In the early 1950's, Walt Disney began designing a huge theme park to be built near Los Angeles. He wanted Disneyland to have a lot of entertainment for the parents and their children but also have some educational aspects. He hired a research firm to find an optimal location in southern California that would be suitable for a large theme park. They studied factors such as growth in population, weather patterns and transportation options. Farming land was bought in the city of Anaheim, about 25 miles south of Los Angeles.
