Legal and regulatory measures adopted to control and prevent sexual harassment
In India, violence against women has always been very common. Innumerable women across the country are exploited socially, economically, physically and mentally in various ways because of paternal mindset and various types of superstitions and myths. In modern times, as women have started stepping out for their freedom, independence and dignity, the cases of sexual harassment at workplaces have started coming into the picture.

A fraction of our population (around 46%) is still illiterate. Women and girls residing in such areas need to be empowered to understand their rights of equality and legal rights. Other than that, even women in the urban areas are not aware of laws on violence against them, of their legal rights or how to exercise their rights.

In such a scenario, literacy becomes an indispensable means for effective and social participation, creating consciousness among not only women but also men which leads to human development and poverty reduction. Legal education is more than necessary for women in not only India but across all nations so that they can affirmatively claim their rights of justice.

Article 39A ]of the Constitution of India directs the State to provide free legal aid with the support of suitable legislation or schemes. It also ensures that no citizen is deprived of the opportunities for securing social justice due to economic or other disabilities.
