Throughout the past several decades we have all seen skinny girls parading around in lingerie and undergarments, these girls are often seen as what women should look like. Is that really what women should look? Or has society created this image of the perfect girl? When people are used to seeing these “icons” and how much attention they get along with how much they are called beautiful, they think this is how every woman should look. Victoria’s Secret models are women that are exceptionally small, have very toned bodies, and have airbrushed tan skin that is flawless. Also, their clothing sizes are not true sizing. Their smalls are what would normally be a medium at least and so when women who normally wear smalls or mediums have to get a bigger size than normal, they feel discouraged about themselves.
Victoria’s Secret is almost brainwashing women into thinking that this is how they should look and if they don’t look like that then they will not be accepted. Women then go to extreme measures to try their best to look like the “perfect women”. Diet pills, starving, and extreme workouts are just a few things women do to achieve the look that they want, which most women never achieve, because we are just not all built to look like these women in the ads. Some even go to more extreme measures like using devices to alter their bodies and some even go as far as surgeries.
All of this is simply because of a few select women that are naturally born with smaller bodies, defining what a woman should look like. Not only are they doing this but also making billions of dollars because of it. Each year Victoria’s Secret makes roughly $ 12,500,000,000. As for the models, it ranges from the highest paid model being 44 million in one year to the average which is about 7.5 million a year.
