Many people choose different career paths. Some people have broad visions of the way their career path is going to be. Some people have decided they want to be Veterinarian Technicians, being a vet tech you will be helping the veterinarians and assisting them with all of the animals. Being a vet tech is a different job for some people but if you are interested in animals it would be right up your ally. You will need to know how to take care of the animals and oversee the conditions of the animals that may have had a surgery or an animal that is ill. You will be expected to provide drug inventory and the logbooks. You will execute the anesthesia to the animals under a veterinarian’s supervision, and supervise the reaction from the animal to the anesthesia. When doing procedures veterinarians can be in danger of the way a dog may react to the actions they make. The veterinary technician is the one who will prevent the animals from making a sudden action or movement. With becoming a technician you should hold a 2 year associate’s degree, you must take a credentialing exam and you must become certified. Veterinary technicians are like the techies of the theatre; the organization would be able to function without them, but it would be much harder. Things run a lot more smoothly with vet techs. There are multiple benefits that come with being a veterinary technician. These benefits include, but are not limited to, a high job outlook, great room for advancement, and only two years of schooling (depending on the route you take). Above all, the animals, who aren’t always able to help themselves, are being taken care of.
Vet Tech has always been an option for me, helping animals is something that is very interesting. It was introduced in 1989, the AVMA officially adopted the name “Vet Tech.” In 1998, emergency vets debut on Animal Planet. And in 2008, student population grows from 500 to 700. There are about 17,000 people employed in the career field chosen. Some of the common trends of the job would be, working at Zoos, Aquariums, Boarding Kennels, and Wildlife sanctuaries. These jobs are usually found working in an animal clinic or hospitals and sometimes at farms because that is the “normal” areas for this occupation. In this career there are some general duties such as: Observe animals behavior and conditions, Provide nursing care, Bathe animals, Clip nails, groom animals hair, keep animals calm during exams or procedures. The more specific duties of the job would be to: take x-rays of animals and develop them, get utensils and prepare the animals for surgery, keep and record patient's history. A Veterinarian Technician (vet tech) can have a rough life when the job involves saving animals. However the job takes, schooling, commitment, and having passion and love for animals. Being able to work and handle animals is a dream come true; it allows people to see what a pet can do for it’s handler. Maintaining a job that researches certain illnesses and broken bones allows a veterinarian technician to help animals in need. This helps bridge the gap between the environment and families all over the world who love animals.
For as long as I can remember, my childhood dream has always been wanting to become a veterinarian. While other kids were outside having fun at the playground, I was at the library reading books and learning about the different animals. However, as I matured, I realized that being a veterinarian isn’t just about caring for and assisting injured animals. Being a veterinarian means having the ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations, showing complete dedication and passion to this profession, and being able to effectively communicate to pet owners.
I chose veterinary technician because I think it will suite me best; moreover later in life I can always go back to school to be a veterinarian whether then get the degree and not use it. I think veterinary technicians have important roles because the doctor will always need assistance with an animal and I would like to be on the side where I will not have to give shots or put them to sleep. Watching an animal get put to sleep is the hardest thing anyone could ever have to see or deal with. I can not be the one to put an animal to sleep it would hurt me to much no matter how much the job needed to be done. Working at the vet as a senior I have seen many gruesome things that veterinarians have to do; however the worse I have seen is the rabies observations. A rabies observation is for an animal that bit someone and depending on how bad the bite is depends on what route they choose to take. This animal had bitten someone pretty bad so they chose the route of putting it to sleep and they doctor had to cut the head off. After the animal 's head was off they stored it in the refrigerator and the next morning was sent of to a laboratory for testing on the neurological part of the brain; moreover it was the worst experience I have had while working at a veterinary clinic. Some Vets say that it is important to start off with something small like veterinary assisting. This helps you on learning how to run your own business someday. Veterinary technologist do allot and this job is very popular. They do everything except surgeries, prescribe drugs and make official diagnoses. A veterinary technologist says “I always thought I wanted to go all the way and earn a DVM, but now I’m not sure. I love this career just as it is, and I need the break from school!” A veterinary assistant usually just takes orders from everyone else. As you can see the veterinarian job field has its benefits and drawbacks, and just like any other career, education is extremely important and patience is needed. Working conditions in this career can vary, and in the future the salary range and job outlook will increase. This career can be a lot to handle; it can come with stress, emotion, excitement and joy. This job isn’t for everyone but if you meet with everything that this job has to offer then being a vet is a great job for you.
The veterinary field is one that has different types of work associated with it. For instance, one may take samples and the other would do x-rays. I have always wanted to become a vet tech because i have always grown up around animals and grown to love them. It would be a great opportunity to wake up everyday and do what i love. It seems like it would be a great choice for me because my heart is for animals. Dr. Kenney made it clear that there is always potential for growth and improvement in this field. Depending on where you work, there is potential to move up the corporate ladder, and eventually even own your own practice. She agrees with the technicians that a strong work ethic is the key to moving ahead, along with being able to enjoy people, she thinks, “You really need a great sense of humor, and be able to take everything in stride. Although occasionally pet owners tend to be more in-your-face, the relationships built with these people lasts, and by working hard you prove to your clientele why you’re a skilled vet and they should continue coming to you.” Dr. Kenney also mentioned that there were a couple drawbacks. My love for dogs started with my very first dog, Chelsea. From the moment I was born, she protected me like no other. Even my own grandfather was scared she was going to bite him when he tried to play with me. When she passed away I felt like I had lost my best friend. That’s why I hold a special place in my heart for not only dogs, but all animals. Veterinarians get the privilege to work with such kind creatures all day, everyday. Performing surgeries, working with the animals, interacting with the owners, and rescuing homeless or hurt animals are just a few of the things vets do. When i was growing up, my grandma lived on a small farm. Ever since growing up on that farm, i've had a deep love for animals, and always wanted to do something with them for a living. My whole life I have loved being around animals. I love taking care of them, petting them, walking them, and basically anything you can think of, that is why I want to become a veterinarian so badly. I believe I will be successful in this career because I am good with solving problems as well as dealing with people in stressful situations. There are multiple types of vets; some specialize in big animals (horses, cows, sheep, etc.) who travel to farms, and some specialize in small animals (dogs, cats, birds, etc.) who stay in-office or travel to a client’s home if necessary.
