I. Introduction
a. Attention Getting Opener:
There is so much going on in this world that it’s hard to focus on the important things. Most adults work full-time so most of their day is spent at work. Usually when this happens, people spend money on eating out because it’s more convenient than having to go home to make food after a long day of work. This is one of the main reasons why people have a hard time transferring to a vegan lifestyle.
b. Reason audience would be interested:
There are plenty of misconceptions most people have about a vegan lifestyle, and by the end of this speech, I wish to debunk most of these for you.

Lastly, there is a wide group of people who believe that a vegan diet makes you weak. They assume that gaining weight can only happen if you consume meat or enough protein. Consuming protein is an important building block of muscles, bones, cartilage, blood, and skin, but most believe that in order to make “gains” you have to consume a lot of protein. According to (Beck) “the massive protein consumption is a scam by the animal product industry (whose products are high in protein) and the supplement industry. Both industries are multibillion-dollar- industries and rely on the mass consumption of their products. High protein consumption is not healthy and is not necessary.” The reason why we eat is to get energy and the essential nutrients. Everyone burns calories and they are our energy source. Depending on how active you are, you are likely to burn more calories throughout the day. The main health benefit is that a vegan diet is richer in certain nutrients. When ditching a typical western diet, you will find yourself in more of a whole-food plant based diet that consist of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, peas, nuts and seeds. These foods contribute to a higher daily intake of beneficial nutrients. According to (Petre, 2016) “Several studies have reported that vegan diets are more likely to provide more fiber, antioxidants and beneficial plant compounds. They also appear to be richer in potassium, magnesium, folate, and vitamins A, C and E.”
b. According to food team by Jamie Oliver, whenever you acquire a whole food plant-based diet, you reduce the risk of morality from type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, obesity, ischemic heart disease, and some cancers. The article by (Team, 2014) suggests that “research has shown that the average vegan diet is lower in saturated fat than one containing meat.” Saturated fat is linked to increased cholesterol levels and a higher risk of heart disease.
c. Many famous athletes have switched over to a plant-based diet and have mostly said that going plant-based helped with slimming down and speeding up, as well as providing higher energy levels and expedited recovery (Easter, 2018).
