In this research project there will be a great deal of changes from then and now because of time era and also the change in influence. This research project is about how life was like for a boy living in the 1880 to 1900 era compared to the present day. I will discus their home life, family life, and personal life, morals, & responsibilities. The first paragraph within each title will be "then", and the second paragraph within the title will be the "present day". This will cover all of the information that I have found on the selected subject. This information will be presented in my report in many paragraphs. Each of the paragraphs will be labeled separately for a better understanding. Responsibilities Then The childhood of a boy living in the 1880 to 1900 era was very different from how life is today. Such as there responsibilities were to assume the behavior of adults as soon as possible, but this all changed after The American Revolution. The American Revolution had such an effect on the political and social behavior; some of this was that it encouraged families to become more egalitarian. Magazine articles advised that the parents should be a less authoritarian institution. The children had needs of there own, they were individuals, and not simply the property of there parents. Which meant that they didn't need to dress exactly like them and take up their habits and responsibilities. They did not have that many activities for work had filled most of their time. Urban and middle class families did have to send there child to work but can mostly prosper by not having to send their children to work. But still the child was a necessary and valuable economic asset for most families. This was do to the fact that still a vast majority of American families lived on farms and they must depend on the work of all family members. By the age of six or seven these farm children had specific responsibilities to help on the farm. The boys by the age of ten or twelve would have to take on men's tasks. The responsibilities of slave children were like the responsibilities of white children that lived on the farm. Except by the age of ten or twelve the slave children both boys and girls were sent to work in the field from sunup to sundown.

Compared to people in the twenty-first century, with all their modern conveniences and technological advances, the life of any early-American seems difficult. However, the lives of children were among the most arduous. Linda Pollock states in her book Forgotten Children that between 1660 and 1800 families -and society in general- became more affectionate, child-oriented, and permissive of uniqueness and unstructured time (67). Although this may be true, many other sources depict the lives of children as taxing and oppressive at best. Children of the time were either forced to abandon education for their family contributions, or had to balance school with a full day's work ("Education"). Even when they were not in school or doing manual labor, their day-to-day lives were uncomfortable and harsh (Kids). Social status, as is expected, was a key factor in determining how hard a child's life would be (Murray 9). Although many children at the time had it easier than others they were all asked at an early age to take on adult responsibilities. The lives of all children in 1800 were mundane and difficult due to family and societal expectations for labor, schooling, and maturity.

New York City is claimed to be one of the greatest cities in the world. Many are blinded by the breathtaking skyline, the endless opportunities, and the hustle and bustle of the streets. As one of the economic capitals of the world, it is surprising to hear that about 30 percent of children currently residing in New York City are living in poverty (Cheney). New York City has evolved into a city for the wealthy by eliminating inexpensive housing and jobs, forcing many families to the streets (Elliot). Many are unaware of how prevalent child poverty is. To raise awareness, the New York Times did a series of articles that followed the life of a young girl named Dasani. The article highlights the brilliance that Dasani had at such a young age and emphasizes the everyday struggles that she had to face growing up as a child in poverty. Some ways that can lower the amount of child poverty is through after school programming and through work-for-rent housing.

In the Child Labor in the Carolinas, photos and depictions of children working in mills show how working class children did not have the opportunities to branch out and have a childhood as defined by today’s standards. Though the pamphlet creators may have been fighting for better standards for child labor in textile mills of the Carolinas, they simultaneously show how working class families depended on multiple members to support the family: in “Chester, South Carolina, an overseer told me frankly that manufacturers [in] all the South evaded the child labor law by letting youngsters who are under age help older brothers and sisters” (McElway, 11). Everyone knows what the word poverty means. It means poor, unable to buy the necessities to survive in today's world. We do not realize how easy it is for a person to fall into poverty: A lost job, a sudden illness, a death in the family or the endless cycle of being born into poverty and not knowing how to overcome it. There are so many children in poverty and a family's structure can effect the outcome. Most of the people who are at the poverty level need some type of help to overcome the obstacles. There are mane issues that deal with poverty and many things that can be done to stop it.
According to Schwartz-Nobel, America will lose as much as 130 billion in future productive capacity for every year that 14.5 American children continue to live in poverty (Koppelman and Goodhart, 2007). Sadly the seriousness of poverty is still often clouded by myths and misunderstandings by society at large. This essay studies the issue of poverty and classism in today's society.
In the late 1700’s and early 1800’s big business began to boom. For the first time companies were developing large factories to manufacture their goods. Due to the new mechanics and cheap labor, factory owners could now produce their goods at a cheaper rate. As big businesses brought wealth and capitalism, it also widened the gap between the wealthy elite and the poor. One class in particular was horribly affected by the growth of big factories.
