Urban growth is the upsurge of population in urban areas such as Sydney and Melbourne, resulting in the construction of huge infrastructure. This has a detrimental impact on the environment as it reduces the natural environment that was previously there. These include trees, forests and animals.
Urban decline is the decline in population in urban areas. As a result parts of the city can become rundown and unbearable to live in for humans and organisms creating what is known as urban decay. This is the process where part of the city falls into a state where it is not functioning as it should be.
Megacities are formed when there is a huge upsurge of population in cities, resulting in a population of more than 8 million people. Most of the megacities

This results in the clearing of land, destruction of habitats and disruption of ecosystems. These factors makes organisms that live there unable to survive. The temperature also has a significant impact on the environment as urban areas are usually hotter than rural areas. This is known as the Urban Heat Island Effect. This results in the reduction of organisms that live in both terrestrial and aquatic environments. The increase in temperature is as result of heat increasing products such as air conditioners that heat up the environment up to 1 degree Celsius. When all the air conditioners in the city amalgamate it causes a huge upsurge in temperature hence the reason for the temperature variation between urban and rural …show more content…
They have put their sweat and tears into making the environment we live in much more suitable for the organisms that live in it. Some of the groups that endear to make Australia a comely place is the Green Party and Keep Australia Beautiful. These organisations and parties endear to make Australia a comely place that everyone can be proud of. They have organized many charity events and programs in order the sustain the environment we live. An ongoing program the have committed themselves to is the sustainable city program. This is a program that they have designed in order to make the cities in Australia be more sustainable by cleaning the environment there. They have even so far went to great lengths to award prizes to the winning cities in each state and territory. Hence, motivating the younger generations as well as the people to endear to make the cities more environmentally friendly. The Green party has also succoured these organisation by bolstering them with money and financially needs in order to keep the program
However, there is usually not enough land or housing for the city's growing population. There is also not enough jobs in the city to keep everyone employed. Poverty increases and jobs give lower and lower pay. The poor live in slums
This paper argues that urban consolidation should not be the focal point for future development in Melbourne. I will present this augment from 4 different environmental and social perspectives, which include urban consolidation limits green space, lack consumer preference, restricts freedom and rebuts that sprawl development is not necessarily bad for traffic.
The reasons behind urbanisation in Australia include the standard of living, job opportunities as well as education.
According to Edward Glaeser, there are many benefits of living in the city as opposed to living in the suburbs or other places, such as enabling creativity and productivity, are more friendly to the environment. One of these benefits he wrote about is that “cities magnify human strengths” (Document 2). He explains how they attract talent and improve it based on competition which allows for social and economic mobility. He also explains how cities “use less motor vehicles” (Document 1). The reason he says this is present in cities, people walk on foot a lot more, which reduces the need for motor vehicle such as cars or motorcycles, which release a lot of Co2 and other greenhouse gases that are harmful to the environment. Glaeser also writes
Have you ever had a dream of moving outside the city and living with your wife, husband or kids with about an acre of land. Well if your dream becomes reality, than you are participating in Urban Sprawl. Urban Sprawl is the expanding of a city over its rural land with single-family homes in low-density neighborhoods. Low-density neighborhoods, with no transportation options are increasing energy costs. My cure is multiple story housing inside the city. Urban Sprawl is negative, because it causes bad health and environmental effects on society.
Patagonia is such a company that is strongly motivated in improving the health of the planet. Here is a summary of some environmental work from Patagonia : • $6.6 Million donated for environmental work • 770 environmental groups received a grant in 2014 • 10 fair trade certified styles in the Patagonia line • 100% of Patagonia’s products are taken back to be used for recycling • 100% of traceable down (traceable to birds that were never live –plucked, never force-fed ) • 136 employees volunteered in the year 2014 through their environmental internship programme (the company offers the employees the opportunity to spend up to two months away from their regular roles, to work for the environmental group of their choice while continuing to earn their pay check and benefits ) • 726,404 single – driver car trip miles avoided this year through their drive- less programme • 1 % for the planet (since 1985 Patagonia gives away 1 % of the company’s profit to organisations that are engaged environmentally ) these information’s where taken from Patagonia’s Environmental &social initiative report
One reason that urbanization was necessary for us to expand was its role-play in better education. Education is the foundation of all past and future nations and it is what makes us strong. In rural areas education was limited and it was very hard to access seeing as there was not much transportation and everything was spread out and far away. In the city when people began the transfer to urbanization they learned that schools and similar places were nearby and they were easy to access. Thus education was higher in urban areas then in rural areas. Also people could share similar ideas more and that led to research teams and new discoveries.
Urban development (such as housing and construction) spreading into rural or suburban areas can be described as suburban sprawl. For example, Toronto’s urban development expanding into Brampton. Over the past few years, a lot of suburban sprawl has been happening in the GTA. Suburban sprawl can mean that human needs such as public transit or stores could be reached without having to travel a long distance. However, sprawl can also result in air pollution, climate change, and loss of agricultural land use. These factors especially
The Green Party has been to make hope for more democratic, safer, cleaner world since 1984. Their American political goal decisions are made by the people and not by corporations. Their environment goals are where nature and human society is in harmony. The Green Party is the oldest, active Green organization in America. It was an organization that arose from the Green Ten Key Values which are now established by all the Greens in the United States. The Ten Key Values accurately accepted the point to a new society and way of life.
Urban Consolidation Factors and Fallacies in Urban Consolidation: Introduction As proponents of urban consolidation and consolidated living continue to manifest in our society, we must ensure that our acknowledgment of its benefits, and the problems of its agitator (sprawl), do not hinder our caution over its continually changing objectives. Definition Like much urban policy, the potential benefits that urban consolidation and the urban village concept seek to offer are substantially undermined by ambiguous definition. This ambiguity, as expressed through a general lack of inter-governmental and inter-professional cohesion on this policy, can best be understood in terms of individual motives (AIUSH,1991). * State Government^s participatory role in the reduction of infrastructure spending.
The Negative Effects of Urbanization on People and their Environment As our world becomes increasingly globalized, numerous people travel to urban areas in search of economic prosperity. As a consequence of this, cities in periphery countries expand at rates of 4 to 7 percent annually. Many cities offer entrepreneurs the potential for resources, labor, and resources. With prosperity, cities also allow the freedom of a diversity of ways of life and manners (Knox & Marston, 2012). However, in the quest to be prosperous, increasing burdens are placed on our health and the condition of our environment.
There are three kinds of development in megacities we would like to explore in this paper, they are sustainable development, economic development and human development. Those kinds of development face many problems in megacities. In 1950 there were only New York and Tokyo as megacities and now in this 21 century the number of megacities are increasing. In 2013 noted there are 28 megacities (New Geography, 2013). Industrialization in developing countries is the main reason why the poor peasant in rural area moved to the cities in the name of better job and higher wages. This urbanization will change the population proportion which is decreasing the rural population and on the other side, increasing the population of urban areas. This continuing movement will inevitably create big and even bigger community in the city and in the end a megacity will be formed. This big number of population influences development of megacities.
Everyday more than 100 Greenpeace Frontline campaigners are on the streets of Australia talking to the public about their work and raising funds to enable it to continue. Frontline develops important relationships with Greenpeace by recruiting long term supporters.
Many villagers and small town dwellers want a living in big cities. With some expectations, they make a movement from villages to big cities. This migration from rural areas to big cities is called urbanization.
Urbanization, or the clearing of land to build, is deforestation done in the name of progress. Land has been cleared for centuries to make way for the building of cities and homes. In fact, the lumber itself is used for shelter and the furniture within it. Industrialization can also be included here. Industries often cause air pollution. Without sufficient trees to process the CO2, the air we breathe contains harmful chemicals that thicken the atmosphere and hold in the radiation from the sun’s rays, which in turn warms the planet.
