Unfair Pay Gap Between Actors and Actresses Hollywood studios are guilty of paying actresses unfairly because of their gender. The pay gap between actors and actresses is unbelievable. Actresses only make around seventy-nine cents for every one-dollar actors make. This matter has become a controversial topic in today’s society. Many people, especially women, question how this pay wage is fair. Many well respected actresses across the country are taking a stand to fight this predicament. Inequality between men and women is nothing new. There have always been conflicts in which men and women debate about what women can and cannot do. The producer of The Hunger Games, Nina Jacobson, has a different take on the unfair wage gap with more facts than Amy Pascal. Nina Jacobson makes a point that every movie has a specific budget that needs to be followed. Because of the budget, certain actors and actresses are paid more due to the importance of their role. She then proceeds to explain that historically, women have always been paid less. Because of how women have always been paid, producers try to base the amount of money they are paying women on how much women have made on previous movies. The precedent is a big factor on how women are going to be paid for the current movie they are working on. Nina Jacobson then proceeds to explain that the pay gap is not fair, but because of the pay gap, the profit from the movie being produced is higher. The profit is the main concern for the producer of any movie. The Hunger Games producer then explains that some actresses will refuse to accept less pay, and depending on how bad the producer wants the actress, the producer may or may not break the precedent. There should not even be an argument about the situation. Most importantly, there should not be any blame on the entertainers for the horrific pay gap. Instead of arguing the issue or pointing fingers at the actresses for not requesting more pay, action needs to take place. People all around the world need to be aware of the conflict. Actresses are never going to get their point across until everybody is aware that this unfair pay is actually happening. When actresses are just standing up against Hollywood Studios, of course the pay for female entertainers is not going to raise. The company that pays the actresses will simply brush off the requests for more pay. The outcome may change when people other than actresses are arguing the point with Hollywood Studios.
